After reading the description and reviews I couldn't wait to eat here but after my experience I will never come back without the promise of change. My husband and I entered the small establishment and immediately seen the specials board where I quickly decided go with the days special. We went up to the vacant bar and shortly after a female worker came from out the kitchen to take our order. I told her I wanted the special she said it is $10.99( I didn't ask the price I was ordering) I said ok, then my husband ordered the rib plate where he was asked what sides. After finishing the transaction, we were giving two drink cups. Not being explained anything the girl just disappeared into the kitchen again. So I noticed the tea containers and commenced to fix our tea feeling like I was in a fast food place with higher prices. Going to a seat we waited for our order to arrive. Not long after sitting my Hubby's food arrived. Waiting a moment for mine, wondering why they didn't come out at the same time, I decided to look at the receipt so I could ask where was my food. Noticing she did not even key in my order. I went back up to the bar somewhat annoyed, where the cook(I guess) was on the phone. I told him that I ordered and she didn't put it in. He said ok you didn't pay for anything, so what do you want. I then told him the fish plate and had to let him know that I was annoyed that my husband has his food but I now have to wait for mine. He shrugged his shoulder and said nonchalantly well sorry. I paid and went back to my seat my husband almost done before my food arrived. I then noticed a smell and looks of fish fried in old oil. Then noticed it was the belly meat. Higher prices for cheap cut fish? Really? Where was the fillets? Food was mediocre at best. Ribs barely warmed through. Bad decision...
Read moreSweet Daddy's may be the best BBQ on the Northshore. I only wish they kept the Mandeville location open because the Covington one is a little too far for me to become a regular.
It was almost a week after Hurricane Isaac and I was craving some good BBQ. I had all but forgotten about Sweet daddy's ever since it closed in Mandeville a few years ago. Upon discovering that Abita BBQ was closed due to storm damage, I set out to find another BBQ restaurant. Upon remembering the Covington location was still open, I sped north to place my order.
Inside I was greeted by very friendly staff. I was unsure of the best way to order a large quantity without breaking the bank, but they steered me in the right direction. They had several combos, but in my case, ordering individual items worked out better.
My order was ready very quickly so I grabbed it and headed home. My order consisted of brisket, pulled pork, mac n cheese, potato salad, corn nuggets and baked beans. The sliced brisket was slightly smokey and perfect for sandwiches. It came without sauce which is how I prefer my brisket. I can then add the amount of sauce I feel necessary.
The pulled pork came pre-mixed with sauce and was good, but I preferred the brisket. I think it would have been better if it too came without sauce, but it was still one of the better versions I have had on the Northshore.
The sides were all good, but the corn nuggets are always a treat. There is something special about fried creamed corn and I have been unable to find it anywhere but Sweet Daddy's.
If you're on the Northshore and want good BBQ, give Sweet...
