My wife and I were visiting Mt Holly to see family and old friends. About to make my annual visit to Super Walmart to pick up a dozen pounds of livermush (a regional treat like Scrapple) to bring back to Tampa. We decided to check out a place recommended in nearby Cramerton.
Late lunch, GPS took us there and parking right in front. Beautiful small town reminded me of my hometown. We were seated right away in a booth that turned out to be very special. Our great waitress Carmen brought drinks and menus.
My wife decided on the Sunday Special Meatloaf with fries, all covered in brown gravy. I chose the Sloppy Joseph with Queso and Jalapeños. There was a brass tag on the booth “Home of Charles and Monica Oliver” and we asked Carmen about it. Turns out the couple came in every day for many years and always sat in Booth 13. So the restaurant honored them with the tag. They have passed but their memory lingers. Awww.
Turns out Carmen had grown up in town and worked at Mayworths while in school. Then moved away but came back to where she loved. She also gave us a brief history of the town. She was so delightful, we wished we could adopt her as a granddaughter! We complimented the chef and she brought him out to meet us!
Excellent food, terrific service and what an atmosphere! Well worth a visit. Made us want to visit more small restaurants in small towns. More than a meal - an adventure! We will be back...
Read moreDon’t go here unless you want to be here for 2+ hours. We went in yesterday for lunch and had a horrible experience!! It wasn’t packed at all. The bar was full but it was only our table and like 2 others. We waited 10 min before our waitress came to get our drink order and appetizer. It took 30 min for our appetizer to come out which was chips and queso. After it came out she took our order it had been 45 min after we ordered and didn’t see our waitress once. No refill. I could see all the waitresses in the back in a circle talking and laughing. After 45 min of waiting on our food our waitress came over to inform us the computer system was down and it would be a little bit before our food came out. I asked her if we could get a refill. She said yes. 15 min later we finally received our food. She never brought us a refill so I asked her again. Our food was cold. We sat and waited for our check and boxes. Our waitress was no where to be found again. Finally after waiting for our check my brother walked up to the bar and asked them nicely for our check. They said the system was down so it would be a minute before they could get it. So 30 more minutes of waiting I asked again where our check is. They said she was adding it up and we would have to do Venmo. I will NEVER go back...

This wasn't what I thought it would be... I went there a few years ago and I really wasn't impressed. The Man and I were looking for a new Sunday brunch place but we are going to be still on the look out...
We started off with the fried pickles for which I am not a fan. The Man loves them so a big heaping platter arrived... A Big Platter Full... I would recommend getting these (if you like pickles) with a group. We ended up boxing a good bit to take home...
I ordered the Texas Cheesesteak without onions or peppers. I do this because I am always curious if the meat is marinated. This was not. Without the onions & peppers, its flavorless meat and cheese on Texas style toast. Im not a fan of onions & peppers in food but that is a texture issue for me. People with food allergies to both should give this dish a pass.
The Man got build your own burger but wasn't impressed with it. We agreed that the only thing we liked was the tea & the pickles (well, he did.)
Our server was on point. After our fiasco last night, we were feeling about odd about going out but the wait staff kept us hydrated. The food came out hot, she was very nice to use and we never felt rushed out the door even though the place was...
