Bread.Butter Bakery — Restaurant in Crestview

I ordered my boyfriends birthday cake from here 3 weeks- a month in advance. I had to message and call 3-4 times to 1. Make sure they received my inquiry via the Google website app (they did not). I called and the girl said she’d check with the owner and call back (I knew that wasn’t happening because she never asked me for a call back number), so I then messaged via Facebook. I had to message three different times to inquire/make sure everything was good to go regarding my order that was agreed to. While the person behind the messages was nice, it was a little frustrating that I had to contact so many times just to ask for me to receive the request for deposit so I could pay it and make sure everything was on track. When receiving and eventually eating the cake, the cake was sooooo dry it was crumbling. It was clear a major ingredient was forgotten, and my bf had wished that I just baked it myself. Pretty disappointed as I was already “iffy” about ordering as I feel that the shop is going down hill as when we also get cookies from there, they are constantly not cooked through in the middle and complete dough…and starting to become mostly uncooked all together. I understand that the owner opened another bakery in Valparaiso, and is SO busy. But please do not forget to maintain both locations, and actually put time and EFFORT into the orders that you agree to for a paying customer. Thank you

UPDATE:

The owner seen my review and messaged me early in the morning regarding it taking ownership in the fact of not arguing that something in the cake may have been missed, she also advised that there has been issues with the oven and they are replacing it immediately. As well as wanted to make it right and is re-baking the cake and making cookies at no charge of mine. She was very apologetic, and VERY sincere in this mishap which is most appreciated and repeatedly let me know that she appreciates the feedback as she always is looking to improve. She offered to get those cookies to me right away or have everything together Monday ( I chose Monday as it’s more convenient for me). Our family will remain customers and spread word of mouth about how well of a business owner the owner is as well as the bakery products (as the owner is fixing the issue regarding the oven to get the cookies and items back to what they should be). 2nd Update:

I went to pick up the cake today, and the owner threw in 2 cookies free of charge. The cake is DELICIOUS. Moist, spongy, even the frosting taste better (which I thought the frosting itself tasted good the first time but this is even better). The reason why I am leaving the first initial part of my review is to show the dissatisfaction that I initially had, and the outcome because the owner stayed true to her word, GENUINELY cares about her business and CUSTOMERS and aims to make sure her product is up to the customer’s expectations. So glad Bread and Butter is a part of Crestview bakery scene! If you're driving by and they're open, stop by. Your taste buds will thank you. In the coming weeks we'll try 'em all! Yum. Oh...and if you're pulling in and don't see a parking place right off, pull up toward Main Street. It may be better parking (that's about the only thing that is tough about getting treats here. Well, that and figuring out what to order) The strawberry shortcake cookie, sea salt Nutella, and chocolate covered oatmeal are great. (No raisins in the oatmeal!! Yeah!) Locals have another bakery to support right here in town. Folks passing through should stop on their way too. A good detour!

Update 6-19... Dropped in to try a different cookie. Goodness! The blueberry cookie with cream cheese. Wow. Another great moist and delicious cookie to add to favorites. Get this one soon. Went to bread and butter to buy a gift for the staff and doctor at my dog’s oncologist prior to moving across the country. I was disappointed by the selection and was expecting to see a lot more items when I walked in. There is only one “area” of bakery items. Another cooler looking item was storing useless novelty items in my opinion and should be more bakery goods. However, the cakes I did buy were great. I loved them and so did the staff. Price was a little higher than I wanted since there was no bundle deal with the cakes but i still made the choice with that over the cookies. Staff was very helpful and kind. My only suggestion is have more bakery items. Even with a small shop you have the space to show more things you guys can and do offer. Even...
