Looking for something different in the area happened upon Labemi's. An Old Corner Tavern meets Superclub. Nothing fancy here as far as decor, 60's style kozy corner tavern offering a super club type menu. Steaks, Chops, Chicken and Fish. Started with a couple of cocktails that were perfectly mixed. We ordered talls and they arrived in a generous glass with crystal clear ice. The only real negative to our meal were the appetizers we ordered, especially for there price. The Calamari we ordered I suspect was of a pre frozen type. While the quality was good I had been looking forward to a homemade hand battered treat. We also ordered the bacon wrapped scallops. Again I cannot be sure but I suspect a pre frozen variety, not bad but had hoped for more. Will try a few of there other appetizer selections next time to see if we can find something more on par with there dinner selections. For dinner my wife ordered the Labemi's Chicken served with shrimp wild rice and a creamy mushroom gravy. It was delicious (She shared a few bites with me). I was torn between the Fried Chicken and the Pan Seared Walleye. Went for the Walleye and with the exception of a few bones enjoyed it very much. Both meals were served piping hot. No food waiting under a warming light here. Service was enjoyable with a friendly and attentive waitress. We will be back and the Fried Chicken will be on my Radar. A solid 4.4! Improve the appetizers and this one would be...
Read moreWhile I appreciate the fact that some people were decent to me throughout my time, others weren’t. When I was grabbing my drink, I’d accidentally spilled the person’s next to me (The Bartender admitted that it was just a glass of WATER).
Despite my apology on behalf of the gentleman’s anger (in addition to my free drink offering despite his glass was water spilling), He dismissed my free drink offering in lieu of his water glass, accompanied by himself getting angry at me for offering him a drink he’d ordered upon myself offering to pay the bartender. For the record, himself AND the bartender treated me like I was some kind of second-citizen among their homosexual clique— I really don’t want to have anything to do with the place. If you enjoy having gay people judge you for accidentally spilling their water glass and subsequently offering them a free drink of their choosing only to have them reject your free drink and become more angry at you, this is definitely the right place for you. It’s a place where gay people congregate and judge straight people for simply nudging their water by accident. If you enjoy having a good time, steer entirely clear of this place and let the gays have...
Read moreWalked in with a group of people who were ready to drink and spend some money, all very outgoing and happy. being people who just moved down the street at the new apts, we were hoping for this to be one of our spots. unfortunately that will not be the case. we were immediately welcomed with a customer yelling "well you better card all of these children". fine, yes we agree, do your job. and him saying that is not on the restaurant, but that just set the tone for the bartenders to then act the way they did. unwelcoming and rude. I asked for a drink after my ID was checked and he looked at me in the eyes and said ignored me and then asked someone else for their ID. I asked again, blatantly ignored again. everyone in my group saw it. my sister asked to close out bc we would not be staying and he decided to tell all of "ya you guys gotta get out of here". ABSOLUTELY AWFUL EXPERIENCE.
AND this was not our first bad experience there. about a year ago for a birthday, we walked in with another group to sit and the bar and the bartender again looked at us and said, "get out of here its dinner time". will never go back or...
