Cafe Olympic — Restaurant in Crystal Lake

Under the new ownership of this establishment, the revisions they made is a huge upgrade in comparison with the prior proprietor. Moreover, in all honesty the current menu is really good and one can tell they care about what their place serves since all menu items seem to be handled with passion in conjunction with care , considering their made-to-order vision that completely works on all facets . Therefore, I normally order carry out from here but, I dined in yesterday and this place doesn’t disappoint since the service was great! Subsequently, I normally order the Monte Carlo sandwich which is very delicious but, this time I ordered their patty melt which the burger was very tasty and the fries were good just as well. Plus, you also get various choices with regards to the sides they offer; and to top it off a choice of soup or salad . Thus, I decided to try the side salad which was made up of a fresh spring mix that I prefer. Consequently, the standout was their house-made dressing dubbed as the cilantro lime vinaigrette . It was so tasty that I was positively ranting about it with the server and the owner where I told them they should bottle it where I would definitely purchase a case of that delicious loveliness in a NY minute! However, the only negative pertaining to my patty melt that it was overcooked but still good . Overall, my dining experience was a definite plus where even the owner visited my table and she was very hospitable. Furthermore , I work in the restaurant industry in Chicago, and to be quite honest , there is only one other place ( a breakfast joint located on Williams St.) in the downtown area of Crystal Lake that care what they present since they embody high-tier quality. Needless to indicate their prices are economically affordable unlike any of the restaurants that is located near the Crystal Lake Metra Station. In other words ,the current owners of Cafe Olympic are very in tune with concocting a very eclectic fresh ingredient menu, which is why this place stands out among their competitors. The Flash was in the kitchen!!

We (4 adults, 2 children, 1 toddler) decided to check this place out for breakfast because it fit into the location we were staying on vacation. we arrived around 9am on a saturday which we expected to be a bit busy, to our surprise they quickly put some tables together and sat us immediately.

The menu is HUGE and it appears you can order whatever you want, whenever you want. Every person in our party ordered a breakfast item, I ordered the French Dip. I beleive it took longer to take our order than to prepare our food (less than 10 minutes for whole table) which, at first take, seems too quick so we were a bit skeptical.

To our surprise the food was amazing, the sausage links they brought out for other orders were almost the size of hot dogs. the portions were just huge for the price. the french dip was an astounding 9/10, it had thicker cuts of beef soaked in au jus prior to being put on the roll so it didn't fall apart when you picked it up and dipped it in the cup of au jus. the service was extremely polite and helpful. We still cannot beleive how fast and efficient the kitchen operates.

The price for all of us (6 1/2 people) was under 60$ which was amazing. They do NOT accept cards, but they have an ATM on site, this is the only downfall of this restaurant everything else was well beyond what we were expecting. We will be making this a staple in all of our future Crystal Lake travels.

Whoever was the host on 8/28- my words cannot even describe how poor of a taste you left in our mouths. We showed up and asked to be sat, the host asked if we minded sitting anywhere and we said yes- first available, she said ok it should be about 5 minutes. About 15 minutes later she comes up to us and asks us if our name was “Miley”, we were like “no, but you didn’t take our name or number down either” she goes, “oh shoot, I forgot to put you on the list so your back down to the bottom of the list”. I was furious at this point because multiple other parties had already been added to the list and this was a mistake on her end. I literally let it go by saying “ok please call us when it’s our turn” (she must of been like 16 which is why i let this slide) she said “ok great I will”. We go next store to have coffee at the coffee shop while we waited. 30 minutes later, 45 minutes later, 1 hour later and then an hour and a half later we said screw it and went home, she never called us. Very disappointed in the entire morning...
