Wow, just Wow! I publish content on YouTube. I travel to restaurants, taste the food and then do an informative review of the business. It's good advertising for the most part. This time though, the manager said I couldn't do a YouTube video. What?? I'm always upfront when I order, and I tell the person behind the counter what my intent is. I really don't have too I just do it as a courtesy. As soon as I said YouTube, the loudmouth manager said I couldn't do it and that I am not allowed to film his people. I told him I NEVER film people, just the food and I wouldn't want him in my video. We went back and forth for a bit, and I decided to leave and went to a real BBQ place, Williams BBQ a couple miles down the road and they were more than happy for me to review their place. Not sure what the manager at Lawler's was trying to hide. Maybe his food isn't that great? I don't know, I do know he was a total douche about it especially with other customers standing there waiting to place an order. I shall not be going...
Read moreMy mother and I both love BBQ, so during a recent toad trip, we decided to try Lawlers BBQ because there were signs for it all over the highway.
Pros: Cleanliness, and inexpensive. Mac & cheese similar to KFC (if that counts as a “pro”). Baked beans are “ok”.
Cons: The coleslaw was shredded cabbage with vinegar- just a few steps shy of sauerkraut. The pulled pork was inedible. The ribs were tough and oddly stringy. The sweet tea was off-the-chart sweet (like double what you’d normally get, sweetness-wise). There really isn’t much atmosphere,- you order at a counter and they call your name to come get it.
In all, we ranked this below all other bbq restaurants we’ve tried in Alabama, including chains such as Famous Dave’s.
We tried it because it’s positive reviews were very high, but our experience wasn’t a positive one.
With other excellent BBQ around, I can’t understand how this place has such great reviews- even at...
Read moreI've been kinda scratching my head about this place. It's an ok meal....but not a standard Alabama BBQ place. I'm pretty sure the (totally ok) BBQ was cooked somewhere else and heated up here in a sous vide or warming oven. Sides are pre-fab. Value is ok....it's an order and pay at the counter situation. Standard fast casual decor like a Moes or 5 guys....Dunno. I went a couple times due to convenience but I can't imagine this being an acceptable solution otherwise. No fries, styrofoam plate, get your own drink. BBQ sauce in a tinky little packet. Huh? Where's my squeeze bottle? Maybe this is a pilot location for really easy franchising? I don't think anything more specialized than cleaning and accounting would be needed to run one. Certainly no real cooking going on here. If you think McDonalds is a good hamburger this will do. Like I said, I...
