I have to go back and review Cumberland House of Pizza, my initial review was pretty unfavorable, but I've had the opportunity to be back several times and they've been able to sway my opinion.
If your from Cumberland, if you go there on any night of the week you are likely to run into someone you know, whether it is another patron or someone on the waitstaff, your likely going to be able to have a friendly conversation with another local. Or, if your new to the town, stick around for a bit and pick up some of the local flavor.
The murals on the walls really make you feel like your in the heart of Greece, I particularly like the mural of the Parthenon on the wall in the bar area. It allows the mind to think of what it would be like to stare out at that historic building while in the heart of Greece culture.
The waitstaff there are friendly and work quickly and efficiently. There is one blonde woman who works the front register and she always amazes me with how friendly she is and how quickly she is able to get the orders into the system. It doesn't hurt that she's a looker either. Her friendly smile and demeanor always make a trip to CHOPS (that's what the locals call it) something to look forward to all day!
The last time I went there, I got a Greek pizza, because as a Greek pizza place, you would hope that you couldn't go wrong with that selection and boy was I happy with it. Tomatoes that tasted like they were freshly picked from the vine that morning, paired with olives that tasted like they were straight from the gardens of Athens. Also, the feta cheese on top is phenomenal, not sure if Feta is my favorite cheese, but man are they doing something right there with whatever cheese they are using.
Now I'm not sure if they have any specialty pizzas that are top with lamb or grape leaves or yogurt, but I'd like to see them try. Perhaps make a super Greek pizza, which goes above the typical olives, tomatoes and feta cheese.
Not sure if they still keep that Baklava at the front register, but what a dessert of the Gods. It will have you dreaming of the place in your sleep.
They also have a bar area in the back where they serve up some tasty brews. Somehow, the beers just taste better there. I'm not sure if its the glasses or the temperatures which they keep the beer, but mmm...mmmm....good. Several of my friends got white Russians while they were there and I'm not sure if they have a cow out back that is getting milked to get the fresh milk that they are using in these drinks, but they sure looked delectable.
So if you have a chance, do not miss this Rhode Island gem, as I mentioned the atmosphere is unbeatable, the waitstaff is friendly and easy on the eyes and I'd hazard to be that the pizza could potentially be one of the best pizzas in the entire New England area. So take a few minutes out of your day and pretend your looking out over the Mediterranean enjoying the local...
Read moreThis place is the king of quality per price as far as pizza goes. The rice is dirt cheap compared to the competition, the food always comes out hot and delicious and there's a good bit of seating (even a pub if you want something a bit more sit down).
This place rocks a coke freestyle self serve machine, seat yourself service but still cleans up the tables after you eat, so it's a good mix between fast casual and a proper restaurant.
My wife and I regularly get a pepperoni mushroom and olive pizza and typically top the meal off with a Greek salad with grilled chicken. A lot of the things on the menu have great prices, but we enjoy our go to a little too much and it's stopped us from meandering the rest of the menu.
Since this place is close to home for us, we're happy regulars. Highly recommend you...
Read moreIf you follow any of my bar reviews I am highly biased towards the exceptional service, banter and playfulness of an establishment's bartenders ... as they (along with the servers) represent and are the face of the bar/restaurant)
Selena at Cumberland house of Pizza is one of those gems. She is not only playful, she is incredibly attentive to EACH customer while making everyone there feel like they are the most important person there.
Her service was exceptional, the food excellent... when you have that combination, even a Wednesday lunch becomes a memorable event.
To be at the same place for 20+ years and to enjoy the banter and give and take of making a first time customer feel like they are at 'Cheers' is hard to do.
Stop by for the food,...
