Fried chicken was burnt to the point it couldn't be pulled from the bone, the chicken breast presented was not bone in like the leg and thigh, it was a pounded boneless chicken breast also burnt to where you could not run a knife through it. Waitress argued with me that it had a bone and seemed offended when I sent it back citing that it was burnt and asked to remove it from our check, which she did and I gladly paid $4 for the vegetables I did eat. We drove all the way from downtown Dallas to visit an old friend in which we spent many family gatherings, what we found was a dated, dark diner playing honky tonk music and filthy restrooms. The food is poor quality and the cook either needs lessons or needs to go back bussing tables. It's not the same and we will not be back... It's true, you can't ever go back... Keep the memories in your heart, save the trip and your money.
After reading other reviews I felt the need to add to this one. I started going to lindys many many years ago, it was a clean family style restaurant. They sold local art, candles and greeting cards in the lobby. The food was outstanding, the service was outstanding, people met their to enjoy a family meal or just meet up with neighbors and have pie coffee. I have not been there since 2013 so it's been about 5 years, the place does not even resemble itself not only with the poor service, argumentative waitresses, filthy conditions but the food frankly is terrible. I am a cook, I know when food is overcooked, I know when it is served old, and shortcuts are taken. The chicken served to me tonight was burned up, it looked as though it had been sitting in a deli under a heat lamp for 3 days. The highlight of the visit was the waitress who tried to convince me a pounded boneless skinless chicken breast was actually a bone-in chicken breast. I almost had to laugh out loud because I asked her to show me the bones and she told me they were there but she had just never seen a chicken breast that big, it was that big because it was a boneless skinless chicken breast that had been pounded with a meat hammer. You can't fix stupid and you can't put lipstick on a pig, this place has experienced some sort of downfall I'm not sure if it is a change of ownership or if they just have staff that simply do not care, however most people with Expendable income is not going to support restaurants like lindys when you can go across the highway and eat out of any service station Deli and have better food at a lower cost. It's sad to me to say that we have made our last trip to lindys because it was at one time a...
Read moreGood food, great service (it worked in our favor that it wasn't busy inside at 3:30 PM) & amazing prices. I ordered the Monday special: one entree with choice of 3 sides for $7.99. I picked meatloaf (w/ red sauce), brussel sprouts, green beans & blackeyed peas. My expectations would be to get a small, not great slice of meatloaf, but NO. I had a huge, juicy slave slab of homemade style meatloaf with a rich and savory tomato sauce generously poured over it. The brussel sprouts were streamed until tender and were quite palatable. Green beans were exactly what you'd anticipate from a country cafe: served in a light broth with small pieces of bacon mixed in. But where a lesser restaurant would have loaded them with salt, these were perfectly seasoned so that you could tasted the tender beans and contrast the flavors against the other ingredients in the side dish. And despite growing up in Texas, I had never been a fan of southern comfort food, in particular, blackeyed peas. But after having the ones that were served in my side dish by Lindy's kitchen, I now understand their appeal. Our server, Pam, was friendly, attentive and was the living embodiment of southern charm and Texas hospitality. The whole staff was friendly without being intrusive. The real shame is that this is a single location that exist only in a far-flung corner of the Metroplex alongside a dusty interstate. But now I'm in the know (and so are you, person reading this review) and I plan to absolutely make a trip down to Lindy's on my next visit to Dallas. I recommend you...
Read moreMy wife, grandson, and I arrived on July 18, 2021 at 3:55pm and was greeted by an older short white man and he immediately took us into the back of the restaurant in a corner away from the rest of the people and didn’t tell us that a waitress would be with us. He immediately walked over to another family that sat alone in the same area as I tried to tell him that I didn’t want to sit there and he rudely and completely ignored me. I walked over to him and stood in his face since he repetitiously ignored me and I told him that we did want to sit there. He asked why and I told him that it is in the back away from everyone in a corner and he said it wasn’t. I sensed he was trying to provoke me and I calmly told him that there were several available tables in the entrance and he said there weren’t any available tables as we looked directly at the tables. There were about 7-9 vacant tables. I told him that African Americans do not sit in the back of restaurants anymore and he hypocritically apologized, but I was aware of his attempt to provoke me to anger by playing ignorant My family and I calmly and respectfully vacated the premises and will never return to an establishment where we are treated less than we deserve. Normally, I would have asked for his name and notified the corporation office, but I find more satisfaction in warning others of this type of treatment and disregard that occurs at...
