Ruthie’s Café: Where Healthy Meets Heavenly
TL;DR: Ruthie’s Café serves up health-conscious breakfast options on their legendary bread, all at reasonable prices in a cozy, inviting space.
Can a healthy breakfast satisfy your taste buds without the usual bacon grease and carb coma? At Ruthie’s Café, the answer is a melty, cheesy yes. I tried their chicken sausage, scrambled egg, and cheese sandwich, all served on their signature bread—a star since their food truck days.
Of course, I couldn’t leave without revisiting the sandwich that made me fall in love with Ruthie’s back when they were slinging cheese sandwiches at Klyde Warren Park. Spoiler: it’s still as gooey and glorious as ever. The café itself is a minimalist dream, with tall ceilings, glass walls, and a vibe that says, “Stay awhile.” Whether you’re hosting a group in their conference room or curling up in the laptop-friendly corner, there’s a spot for everyone.
The biggest surprise? The prices. Somehow, they’re as reasonable—if not better—than their food truck days. I stumbled upon this gem while shopping for produce nearby and will absolutely be back for their brisket cheese sandwich.
The Flipside: The coffee? Meh. It’s not bad, but it’s more “standard drip” than “artisan brew.” It’s like showing up to a cheese party with crackers that are just okay.
Pro Tips: Skip the street parking stress—there’s a convenient lot in the back. The patio is perfect for overcast days or when you want to feel fancy eating a cheese sandwich outdoors. Planning a group gathering? The conference room seems reservable. Breakfast is served all day! Ignore the TV screens showing the lunch menu and grab a laminated menu at the counter for the good stuff. The coffee comes out extremely hot. Be mindful when opening it, and maybe let it cool down for a few minutes. I think I finished my meal, and the coffee was still cooling off.
Final Thoughts: Ruthie’s Café nails the trifecta: quality food, reasonable prices, and thoughtful touches like eco-friendly utensils. Whether you’re here for the bread, the cheese, or just the vibe, it’s a spot worth adding to your regular rotation. After all, life’s too short for bad bread—or boring cheese sandwiches. Mmmm…...

This was my first and definitely last time visiting Ruthie’s. From the moment I stepped inside, I was beyond disappointed and honestly disturbed. I went to use the restroom and was met by a young man who reeked of marijuana and appeared to be clearly under the influence. Major red flag. What’s worse, I witnessed this same individual touch a young woman inappropriately. I believe she was also an employee, which made it even more alarming and unprofessional. After that unsettling encounter, I waited an unreasonable amount of time for my to-go order. When it finally came out and I opened it, I found a hair in my sandwich. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. I came here thinking I was supporting a good cause, but this place is not about the mission they claim to stand for. The environment was unclean, the staff seemed completely untrained, and the behavior I witnessed was disturbing to say the least.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Ruthie’s was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had unsanitary, unprofessional, and unsafe. Avoid this place...

In July (2025) we saw a CBS story that highlighted Ruthie’s Cafe and just had to try it. The grilled cheese had looked so delicious!
We had the “Plain Jane”, the “Plain Jane” with jalapeños, and the “Extra Cheesy” and they were all so yummy! The bread was crunchy with every bite—I don’t know how Zoe (chef/cook) does it. The food was so good, we ended up ordering additional grilled cheese sandwiches to take home with us. Zoe said that we would be raving about the “The Boss” (BBQ beef brisket with sharp yellow cheese). I can’t wait to get home to try it.
You should definitely check this place out. …but get there before 2:00 PM on...
