Read moreI had friends tell me I needed to check out this market after it went viral, so I did. Here's my thoughts based on when I attended:
Day of week & time of day: Monday @ 9:15am Parking: I turned onto Coombs street from S Harwood. IMPORTANT: Drive SLOW & CAREFUL, as Coombs is an old railroad track and the concrete in several areas is just gone, so it's easy to mess up the front end of your car &/or get stuck in a pothole. You can risk parking on Coombs, which has no marked parking spots but signs stating no parking, OR you can park in the lot at the corner of Coombs & Cesar Chavez Blvd, which is what I did. Beware of potholes right at the entrance to the lot, otherwise the lot was plentiful at the time I visited.
Inside: The market is clean and easy to get through. I didn't realize I needed to bring my own bags, but I was able to find an empty produce box they let me use to get my produce to the car.
The produce wasn't super fresh, so you'll need to use/process/cook/freeze it within the day or maybe next day at max. Some prices were cheaper than stores like Walmart or Kroger, and some were slightly more expensive.
All in all: Would I shop here again? If I'm in the area, maybe, but I won't make a special trip...
Read moreI heard about them from social media a few months ago. Their produce is great quality and I can get all of my produce for the week here for a really nice price. I usually spend about $30-$45, that usually includes my post shopping snacks and drinks I get at checkout, for 2 people and I fill up my crate almost to the brim. I like that they have dried spices and tortillas as well as food vendors who set up on location. I usually use my own wagon but they have crates and carts to use to shop. I am able to go during the week in the mornings which is less busy, the weekends and afternoon times are typically going to be a lot busier but not too bad waiting in line. They have a small parking lot and you can park along their street. I love coming here because if saves me a lot of money on produce that would be way more at the regular grocery stores. Also...it's air conditioned and so nice when...
