Spare Time Pizza — Restaurant in Dallas

Spare Time Pizza is located inside the Back Mountain Bowling building and serves delicious Sicilian-style pizza. The establishment also makes pizza for the Back Mountain Bowling crowd.

We arrived on a Friday night after 7 p.m. and although there were tables open, there was a constant stream of patrons coming in for takeout (even someone who works for the competition!). The dining area was also very clean.

We ordered just a regular 12-cut Sicilian pie, but there are also plenty of other choices. Including one of my favorites, General Tso's chicken pizza.

The server was very pleasant, and we received our pizza fairly quickly, despite how busy it seemed.

Locals will compare it to nearby Pizza Perfect, and although there are many similarities, I believe Spare Time has a sweeter sauce.

My friend recommended this place because it had really great ratings on a pizza review blog that he is on (yes, those are a thing!). I must say I was really surprised by this unique, Detroit style pizza. The sauce had sweet undertones, and the way they incorporated onions into their sauces was done really well! The buffalo chicken pizza was simultaneously sweet and spicy and the chicken was really tender unlike some other places that cook their chicken to a near jerky level texture. Only thing I will say is that it is a HEAVY meal. The pizza tasted like it was deep fried in oil. Hey, you only live once right? The food here is great, and the dining room service is also great. However, I've never had so many issues with takeout as I have at Spare Time. Three times in a row, I showed up at the pickup time, paid at the bar, and then waited for over 30 more minutes for the food to come out. Asking the staff to check on the food was met with "you were told the wrong pickup time" or "it'll just be a few more minutes". If the take out experience was better, I'd continue...
