Had never gotten food from this place before but they had halal options and I wanted to support a local place from my own community.
Ordered through Uber and as you can see from the picture, you can't leave allergy requests in app so I called (see photo for time stamp) and asked if they could accommodate. Was told they could make one accommodation for an allergy so I thought all was good. If they had said they couldn't do anything for me, I would have moved on no hard feelings. In hindsight, I wish they had just done that instead of wasting my time.
Anyway, I get there at the time Uber told me my order would be ready, was told by the worker I assume took my call earlier that it would actually be 10 more minutes. I think it ended up being 15 minutes total before a second worker handed me my order. When I opened the boxes before leaving, the ingredient I requested to be removed was not.
I told this second employee, who will be referred to as Man-Child moving forward, that my order wasn't made right. Man-Child immediately began yelling at me that the other employee shouldn't have let me make any modifications, that it's his fault for allowing it, now he has to throw this wrong order in the trash, he'll only redo the order this one time like he was doing me a favor, and on and on. I asked how any of that's my fault if an employee told me they could accommodate. Man-Child cut me off and just continued yelling while walking away to the back.
Then Man-Child proceeded to stop about 10 feet from my line of vision and literally spike the pizza boxes in the trash like a football. I mean It was Superbowl night, though he clearly wasn't in a celebratory mood. It was over the top dramatic how angry he was. When the first employee working the front came back, I said I'm not accepting a remake due to Man-Child's behavior. I was already shocked by how filthy the place was inside and I definitely did not trust my food would be prepared with cleanliness after the toddler meltdown I just witnessed nor did I want to wait any longer than I already did.
The first employee just said okay, no attempt to walk back what just happened as if he's used to these infant outbursts. He said nothing more than he's not able to refund the order himself, that I need to contact Uber. After that I left and called Uber who tried to contact the business twice to confirm I did not leave with food but they did not answer the phone. After more than 20 minutes after I left with no food, this business marked the order complete.
On that note, I keep seeing the same complaints and excuses from the owner about food apps to other reviewers, but no one is forcing them to use these platforms that drive more traffic their way. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either work around issues or don't partner with food apps.
As for Man-Child, he doesn't belong in food service, he belongs in anger management. If not that, maybe children at the same level of emotional intelligence as him can help him learn to regulate his emotions. Restaurants get orders wrong all the time, no big deal, certainly not enough to warrant a temper tantrum. Take a time out or a nap the next time you feel the...

Read moreIn the 2 years I've lived in the area Zio Al's has been my go to pizza place, but after how rude the guy on the phone was to me last night I'll probably never come back.
The food is great and if you want someone to talk down to you on the phone then this is the place for you!
I used to work in the pizza industry for 10 years and was even a General Manager of a Papa John's restaurant. In pizza toppings 1/2 + 1/2 = 1, but to Zio Al's 1/2 + 1/2 = 2, which is bad math.
That's fine I get that Zio Al's wants to nickel and dime people on toppings and that is their right as a business owner and I as a customer was happy to pay extra, but he didn't tell me "I'm sorry sir that's 3 toppings and you would have to pay extra."
Please understand that if he had said that on the phone immediately when I said the "third" topping I would have no problem with Zio Al's today and would continue to order from them, but he didn't say that he rudely said "you can't do that, that is 3 toppings" and the phone call continued for an extra 3 minutes where I had to explain to him he was misunderstanding me, then I found out that he was trying to nickel and dime me, so I told him that his math was wrong and he was happy to argue with me for some reason that I am unaware of. I finally just said
"Look the coupon is for a 2 topping pizza so why can't I just pay extra for the topping?"
"you can do that"
"The why did you have to hassle me about it and say I can't do it? Why didn't you just tell me up front and let me pay pay extra for it?"
He gladly accepted but why did he have to argue with me? Why couldn't he have just asked me to pay more up front?
I love your pizza Zio Al's but I'll never be back with how your customer service representative treated me last night because he doesn't know how to talk to people like a human being. I've talked to him before when I've called and he always has a negative attitude like he hates his job and is annoyed that I called, but he never gave me any problems, the pizza is always delicious, and the drivers are always so friendly that I never concerned myself with him...
