6/7/2022 STILL A PLACE FOR ME This is my June 2022 update of this great Vietnamese restaurant on top of the hill. Yesterday I had a nice rice plate for lunch with pork chop, pig skin and egg, salad, diluted fish sauce and a bowl of broth. Quite a satisfying meal less than $12. The service was lightening fast—less than 5 minutes. What makes me spend the time to write this review is the grilled pork chop. No way I can replicate the taste of the charred pork fat at home. It smells so appetizing. It tastes so smooth in my mouth. I will put in an extra 15 minutes running on the treadmill at the gym tomorrow but today no one can talk me out of this good lunch. My THANKS go to the friendly and hard working staff at this Phở restaurant.
Monday 3/15/2021 HAPPINESS IN COVID TIME On this sunny but cold day, with icy piercing winds blowing across the whole Bay Area, here I am, finally enjoying my Phở inside Kevin’s Noodle House at the top of the hill. The rice noodle is soft, the hot beef broth tasty and light , the slices of rare beef and chunks of tendon perfectly cooked. Add a squeeze of Siracha hot sauce and hoisin sauce. Finish with a few drops of fresh lime and I allow myself to forget Covid for a brief moment. The seating is very well distanced. The service is fast and friendly as usual. I think I will return to this noodle house more often than before so I can put back my stimuli $$$ into our local businesses.
BEST $10 LUNCH IN DALY CITY Do you want fast services? Very decent Vietnamese food? With best prices? Then ignore the one star review and come try for yourself. The rice plate with well marinated pork chop, some salad, a small bowl of broth, topped with an over easy egg and hot tea...all this for ten bucks—let’s not require smiling faces and nice greetings. Surely their Phở cannot compare to the bests I had in Saigon before 1975, but friends, this place does give me a few moments being close to that time of yesteryear. It’s a very nice place for working people on their lunch break or retirees on their outings or students on their skinny budget. A cheap meal with some Vietnamese music gently playing in the background, it’s quite relaxing for me. With a hot bowl of Phở for under 8 bucks, this place deserves a four stars from me especially when it’s cold and windy up on the hill. Good luck to you for trying to find a smiling face at Starbuck Coffee. The staff at this restaurant is efficient and NOT rude at all. It’s a place I will continue to return on a regular basis for my...
Read moreWe are regulars eating and ordering food from Kevin's Noodle House. I give the food 5 stars for quality and taste. The pho broth is excellent and they have great rice dishes as well. I personally love their Bún Thịt Nướng (grilled pork over vermicelli) with egg roll.
The reason for the 3 stars on this review was for one bad experience with takeout. We ordered food online for pickup. When we brought the food home, we found that one dish that we ordered was wrong (they gave pho #1 instead of #2 ... and I don't eat tripe included in #1). We called the restaurant to let them know and the gentleman on the phone (Chris) was understanding. He said that they would give us the right order next time on the house (free) for our troubles. This is when the issue happened. A couple of days later, we went to the restaurant to order the free dish and the lady taking orders said they would not do that for us. Instead, she said she would only give us the meat that was not in our order last time but not the whole dish (pho #2) for free and would not let us talk to, Chris, the gentleman who we spoke to on the phone.
To wrap this up, I still recommend Kevin's noodles but they need to keep their promises especially when they make mistakes. We may return to eating there but for now we are a bit disappointed from...
Read moreI have been coming here for quite a long time, maybe since they first opened and the food quality was decent, portions were good, and service was alright. Not sure what happened over time but now they got rid of the Vietnamese employees at this location and replaced them with majority Spanish speaking employees. When we walked in to the restaurant today, they were playing Spanish music and as I looked around there was only one Vietnamese employee. This is simply a fact. The server forgot to bring out waters we asked for and provided below average service. Of course my review should reflect the food quality as well, and I will tell you that the broth they serve here is extremely bland. The flavor of the broth has no depth and it simply tastes like 80% msg mixed with some instant pho powder. To add to that, the portions of actual meat (the stuff you pay for) was extremely small. Majority of the bowl is broth, meat portion is even smaller, and then the rest is pho noodle. They also stopped putting normal portion of cilantro/green onions as well. I don’t know what happened. I am disappointed to be writing this review but if management sees this, I hope they are doing frequent quality control. I think if you come here, it shouldn’t be for “quality Vietnamese food” but rather...
