After dining here for many, many years I now won't go back again. We met friends for dinner, also long time customers. It took awhile for our waitress to appear and she gave us the regular menus along with, as she described, a "Special" menu. Had this been a movie this is where the ominous music starts. They had guest chefs serving "Boxty" a potato pancake that came as the base of entrees. We ordered two of the entrees, some regular menu items and the Boxty appetizer in which the pancake was cut into fries. That arrived with our drinks in a few minutes. It was smaller than an order of fast food small fries with very small pieces of fried stuff that tasted of oil and salt but no potato flavor. At $10 it was disappointing.

And then we waited and waited. We couldn't find our waitress. Over 90 minutes since we were seated, we finally get served and then realize our food is cold, like it has been sitting for quite a while. We flag our server down and she takes the food away and says she will fix it. Five minutes later she comes back and says they have to recook all the food but my order will take 25 minutes so I tell her to cancel my dinner. Five minutes later she comes back and says mine won't take that long. Ten minutes later the food comes back. We've now been there about 2 hours.

Now it gets worse. The food wasn't good. The Boxty pancake was and soggy, rubbery and tasteless. The corned beef and cabbage was small chopped unidentifiable pieces covered in some gloopy sauce. The salmon was OK if a little overcooked and dry. The mussels were OK but the normally flavorful broth tasted awful. The chicken pot pie was smaller than a frozen Banquet TV dinner and after picking through half of it I found one small piece of chicken. Also the sides, mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots were still barely warm. We were starving so we picked through and ate what we could but my friends, who live nearby and eat there regularly kept saying how bad the food was.

When our check arrives there was no apology and nothing adjusted on the bill. We tell the waitress that they should have done something and she replies "Well we recooked your food and you ate it so what do you want". She was not nice. She was rude and snotty. She then says "Do you want to speak to a manager?" We told her we shouldn't have to argue as they knew they had screwed up our dinner. She comes back and tells us two beers were removed from the bill, and acts like it was a miracle. So we pay and leave.

So here is the real reason I am posting such a bad review and why I won't go back. Any restaurant can have a bad night, cook a bad meal, screw up an order. Mistakes are made, but how you recover and what you do to make the problem better for the customer is what sets you apart and what is remembered. The manager never came over to the table. The waitress acted like she was doing us a favor to get our food to the table and not just her job. We could forgive a bad meal but not unprofessional and rude...

Stopped by this absolutely hidden gem of a place recently

There is a nice bit of parking and an age old Banyan tree up front. The whole vibe was cozy, warm, welcoming and I got the feeling I was about to take a load off.

The minute I walked into this place, I felt like a cross between JRR Tolkien and Captain Cook transported back in time walking into an Olde Pub for a weary traveller. Oh, what a treat! The decor inside is simply stunning. The place is so full of character, the walls had stories upon stories to tell and I would have just been content sitting here forever, drinking my Guinness and reading a dusty old book for ages through a monocle.

We tucked ourselves into a cool little booth by the corner that felt like a ships cabin and ordered ourselves some Guinness and some house brew (Banyan?). Both were fantastic. Since we were just coming off a 20 mile trek, we were utterly famished and ordered a bunch of stuff.

Chips and Curry - 10/10. Classic English Chips, almost like wedge fries with a fantastically tasty curry dip. Not too spicy and delivered just the right amount of kick.

Bread with Honey Butter - 10/10. Warm and so satisfying.

Onion Rings - 10/10. Surprisingly large portion size, and absolutely well done!

Irish Sausage Rolls - 10/10. The sausage inside was deadly satisfying and the flaky, fluffy, light, airy, crusty pastry outside was a masterclass in how a flaky, fluffy, light, airy, crusty pastry should be like! Stupid good.

Shepard's Pie - Gazillion / 10. Muahahahaha and on to my next piratey adventure is how I felt when I had this meaty, potatoey, cheddary baby right here.

Waitstaff - 10/10. Attentive, pleasant, speedy and bright!

Easy no brainer...

Our waitress seemed oveewhelmed and treated her customers like it was their fault she couldn't handle her job. She would cut you off when you spoke and if you tried to order and she wasn't wanting to take your order she would say, I will come back to take your order and run off.

The food is always delicious and the entertainment is always great when 2 of Us Beatles is there. I am not a fan of their Rod Stewart, if he still is there, he always seems to get wasted. I saw him once and will never go back. He use to perform on Wednesdays I believe because I avoid this place like the plague on Wednesdays. They charge $10 for entertainment though now. No restaurant charges you for the entertainment they decided on hiring. If it was a small fee like $3 I wouldn't complain, but there are great venues that charge $10 that you go for the entertainment. I do not know if this is just certain entertainment or all of their entertainment now, but they didn't do that before Covid.

This was the first time I had been back since Covid because of this charge and I use to go every week to hear Beatles music. I would eat and drink, but I guess because some rogue, small amount of ppl would just get water so everyone that bought stuff gets the bad end of the stick.

Anyways, I would only recommend going for special occasions now and nights when there is no charged entertainment because they do not have a sign anywhere stating as such I would recommend calling. None that I saw anyway.

So, it is a cool looking place definitely somewhere everyone should go at least once, extremely dark, and good for once in a blue moon. Not great for a after work...

I came here out of curiosity last week and then came back with my girlfriend and her sister. This is one very particular theme restaurant, the atmosphere is very dim lighting and very Irish theme. The food is amazing! We had the European Cheese Board, the Fried Brie, Potato Skins and the Country Bread for appetizer! Each was really good but my favorite had to be the European Cheese Board as it had a variety of cheeses and crackers. For my entry I had the pot roast and I was blown away! I usually go for a steak or a burger but I decided to go with something completely new and was pleased with my choice. I paired it with an Irish red ale. The veggies were cooked really well. GF had the salmon, and sadly she said it was too gamey for her. I had a taste and I do have to agree. She did finish it but, she’ll have something else next time. Her sister had the Barrywall steak. She loved the way it was prepared with the Worcester sauce. She also had a Irish Potato soup, which was fulfilling too. We came in the right time and had Ian perform some live music for us, music was great and it fit the theme! Overall I really had a blast coming here as did my girlfriend and her sister! I definitely recommend coming here for the scenery, the food or to grab a pint! There is absolutely something for everyone at the Field!

The ambiance of this place is incredible. Approaching from the road, the outside looks very different than what is inside (which is a bit like a tree house!) Low mood lighting means this is a great place for a date. The food was either good, or just ok. We had the onion rings, and the chicken strips from the appetizers menu, a side of rustic potatoes and the side vegetable medley. The vegetable medley was better than expected in that it featured baby green beans and carrots. The flavor was great but the green beans were underdone and the carrots were overdone. The onion rings were very good. The flavor in the batter was nice and they were very light, and there was a good portion to share between two people. The rustics potatoes were nicely executed with small crispy diced red potatoes. The chicken strips were only OK. They were the corn meal type batter and very thin. They seemed previously frozen. The beer list was very decent, with a nice range of styles on draft including hefeweiss and red ale. We went at 5pm on Sunday and it wasn't too busy. We ate outside on the deck, which is very large and in some places had a tree growing through it. This was overall a very good experience, and I'll be back to try more of their menu. But I'll skip the chicken tenders ;)
