This was a terrible experience and I would not recommend this bar to anyone. On a Saturday night, my friends and I presented our IDs to security at the front door and we were allowed access. We tried to order drinks at the bar but were told they did not accept credit, only cash. I went to the ATM and while I was trying to pull out cash at the ATM, a man claiming to be a manager came up to me and asked to check my ID. I explained to him that I already presented my ID at the front door so I shouldn't need to provide it to some random person at the ATM while I was trying to pull out cash to pay for the drinks. He stated he didn't see me come in and insisted for my ID, which i stated his security at the the front checked my ID already so I didn't need to show him. My friends and I ended up leaving this bar due to this manager being so invasive. This is one of those local bars that allows the locals they recognize to come on in without paying a cover while they charge others that they don't recognize a cover charge to get in. Typical trash bar security that allows local underage girls to get drunk, while scrutinizing people from out of town just trying to grab a drink before retiring for the night. Pass by this bar for the next, you'll only get harassed by random beta men pretending to be managers asking for your ID even though their competent security should have already checked that at the front...
Read moreAn interesting place, though I've only been here during the day. It features fantastically perserved old-guard decor that doesn't look like it's changed since the dawn if the Nixon administration. Though Danville has gone high-dollar, this place has hung onto it's classic patina and cozy feel. The patrons are a pretty close-knit, difficult-to-approach group....though you'll find some of them to be very interesting if you manage to break the ice. It's one of a few bars I patronize where my MO is generally to not speak unless spoken to. The bar has two compartments....a well lit front area with an entrance on Hartz, and a darker and usually less populated area with an entrance through the back. Hang in front if you want to attempt mixing with the locals, or go in back if you want to sit by yourself. The patio in the back is somewhat disheveled, but the restrooms are well and maintained and spotlessly clean. Bar snacks seem to migrate between pretzles and chips of some sort. Check it out if you're in the area, but if your a ways off? I woudn't make...
Read moreWe dropped in on a Saturday to check out the shuffleboard and have a quick drink. The area was very busy but we managed to find parking in the large strip lot behind the bar and neighboring businesses. The full length table is in great shape and plays well. Long bar with a partial wall divider. The T.V.s around were all broadcasting sporting events. It appeared to be a steady flow of mostly regulars with a few travelers or friends of the locals. Friendly and polite people and seemed to be a mixed age group but mostly over 30 a few were less. Very cool history bar serving a strong...
