I think it's worth prefacing this review with some context that I used to go to the old peasant and the pear. Coming to this new location was odd seeing it be much more akin to a bar was a bit of a shock but I decided to give it a shot. Another thing Worth prefacing is that there are some good things and tasty things at this location. I think my biggest critique of this place is that it's a big pricey it was $90 for the two of us with one starter and then two appetizers I got a burger as well as the salmon I did not expect a $90 price tag The server was extremely kind and patient very attentive. the water glasses should be larger as having her come back constantly to fill my water was silly and avoidable. The fondue is extremely tasty just like the last location it's $18 but personally I think it's worth it. I will say that the dipping selection was a little lacking The grapes weren't very tasty the bread was slightly crumbly if that makes sense and they didn't bring out the pears which I thought was odd as there were pears with other dishes. I saw the other table next to us get little crisp bread discs and made a comment and the owner was extremely attentive and brought over those little crisps for us it was an extremely kind gesture I also remember them having a burner instead of a candle to keep the fondue warm the fondue became cold relatively quickly it was good for the first 10 minutes . The burger I got was very tasty the beef was very good My wife got the salmon which was similarly good and she replaced the cauliflower risotto with paletta which was very tasty They gave us two cream puffs for my birthday which was very nice of them One other thing that I think is worth interrogating is putting up some sort of furniture to help with the acoustics as the place was very loud and echoey something like a wine shelf or decorative pieces on the wall would help with the acoustics a lot I don't claim to be an expert on the subject all I can say is that it was very loud in there even with a reasonable amount of people inside.
I think the takeaway from this review is that this place is honestly pretty good there's if you think that I think could use some improving but if you have the money to spend definitely bring it here and get the...
Read moreWorst service ever!!!
Actually, I take that back because we received no service whatsoever. So really ... the service was nonexistent. Seriously!
As soon as we walked in the door, we were treated like lepers by the hostess since we had kids with us. I have to ask why do you even have a kids menu if your hostess(es) - yeah, you read that right ... PLURAL ... since there were two of them at one point with both the same look (like they ate something that didn't agree with them and needed to go run to the bathroom) - is going to turn up their noses like that once they saw children when they themselves just barely got out of diapers?
We arrived earlier than our reservation time and was turned away since our table wasn't ready. That was fine. We walked around outside, entertained ourselves, and came back when our reservation time was up. We were seated outside in a little alcove surrounded by their wooden fence. Someone came by and gave us waters and bread after about 10 minutes of sitting there.
However, not one wait staff came by to take our drink orders. Not one!! They noticed us though because they kept glancing our way. Yes, I saw you look Ms. Waitress and Mr. Bartender, but did you come over to ask about our welfare? No. Or to even say that someone will be with us shortly? No! You just walked away and ignored us.
After 30 minutes of waiting, my friend told me that my sister and I are way too polite as she would have just walked out of the establishment. I have NEVER walked out on any restaurant before, but there's a first time for everything, right? We ended up walking out of there after waiting a few more minutes and we still didn't get a "how do you do?" from ANYONE! We could have easily spent $500 between us as we were that hungry!!
I can't even tell you what the food tasted like because the only thing we tasted was the free bread, and let me tell you, if we weren't so hungry, I'd have thrown my piece at the waitress that looked up at us and walked away. That bread was beyond salty! If we ever run out of saltwater for our oceans, this is the place to go to. Their bread can easily solve our ocean's acidification problems. Yes, it was that salty!
Stay away! Stay far, far, far, far, away...
Read moreI phoned to make a reservation for dinner for two to celebrate my husband's birthday. They had a table available and I gave my phone number. They told me that it was a prix fixe menu because it was Mother's Day and I told them fine as long as they had the lamb shank as an option. They did and told me the menu was on their website. I searched the website to no avail and phoned back. I was told it was on their Facebook page. Looked at that - no Mother's Day menu there. So we arrived for our 5:30 reservation and the hostess promptly tells me she doesn't see our reservation. I told her to please be sure and she barely spent a few seconds double-checking. She could have even asked my name and number again. I asked for the manager and he said they had a table and that we would be seated. No apology for a lost reservation. The table was fine and we ordered drinks. Then our server returned to take our order. He asked me to order first. I went ahead and ordered for myself and then for my husband. He abruptly stops me, very confused, and tells me to order all courses for my husband first then myself ! After that debacle, I had to wait for him to return to ask for a birthday candle on the dessert. The server replied "of course". Over the course of the dinner, the server returned to the table only to "serve" us by literally dropping the plates on the table, not placing them, and rushing off, once even before we could ask for silverware, which we had to ask the busboy to replace. Then the busboy brings our dessert: no candle in sight. The server passes by the table, sees the dessert without the candle, and whispers "sorry". As he bolts again. Then he has the audacity to return to drop, not place, the check with a 20% fixed service fee on the table, without a word proposing to correct. Overall the food was excellent. The service, except for that provided by the busboy, was absolutely dismal. We'll go somewhere else for our next...
