My wife and I enjoyed dining at Hazy Barbecue in Danville on a rather wet and rainy Tuesday evening, and it was a really great experience. The cozy BBQ-style ambiance welcomed us and the staff was very easy and pleasant to work with. No lines to order a a relatively short wait. The order arrived in a timely fashion and was correct with no errors.
We opted for a two-person three-meat combo, which included pulled pork, BBQ ribs, and brisket. Each meat was juicy and well cooked, with rich flavors, without being overly smoky. The pulled pork was tender and juicy, the ribs fell off the bone with ease, and the brisket was wonderfully flavorful and succulent. It's clear that Hazy Barbecue takes great pride in its meats.
For sides, we chose Brussels sprouts and tempura green beans, both of which were tasty and complemented the meats well. The Brussels sprouts were roasted to perfection, and the tempura green beans were a good, crispy treat. Next time I will probably opt for something other than the tempura green beans, but they weren't bad, just not amazing.
Adding to the experience was the chance encounter with Justine, the owner. She was incredibly nice, professional, and made sure our dining experience was nothing short of excellent without being intrusive. It's rare to see such a hands-on approach that adds a personal touch to the dining experience.
Despite the rain, the restaurant was pleasantly quiet, allowing us to enjoy our meal in peace. It was also noteworthy how clean both the restaurant and bathrooms were, creating a comfortable and inviting environment. The pricing was decent, with a special Tuesday offer for ladies and a Tuesday Happy Hour with all-day lunch menu that provided great value for money.
Although we didn't have our kids with us, a quick glance at the menu confirmed that it was very kid-friendly, something we'll keep in mind for future visits.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, like we were, do yourself a favor and stop by Hazy Barbecue. It's a gem that deserves all the praise and a solid five...
Read moreUPDATE: They have improved immensely! The burnt ends were very tasty, just too much fat that should have been trimmed off before cooking. Mashed potatoes were very good and the brisket beans were excellent! My only complaint was my food was packed and as I went to get in my car I noticed I was missing the burnt ends. I had to go back in and get them. Customer service seems to have stepped up a notch! Prices have increased quite a bit, but so have everyone’s prices. Maybe now I can start coming back.
Sooo disappointed!! I hadn’t visited the restaurant in quite some time because every time I have gone, they never seem to get things right. Even this time, I ordered 3/4lb of burnt ends and had I not looked at the container before exiting the restaurant, it would have only been 1/4 lb. Actually that would have been fine since I am throwing them in the GARBAGE…. WORST I have ever had. They have no flavor, just bland nothing that tastes like it was soaked in honey, absolutely no other flavor at all. No garlic, no pepper, no seasoning at all.
Do they not have a quality control person to make sure the food prepared is good enough to serve? After checking the burnt ends, they might want to also check the brisket beans that are super watery/liquidity and spicier than he double L.
I called the restaurant to ask if the recipe for the burnt ends had changed and she said no. I let her know how bad they are and her reply was, “sorry about that.” Seriously after just spending $22.42 on the burnt ends, sorry about that was the best she could do?? My bill was $50.17 total and I will not be returning anytime soon.
Not only is the food poor quality but the customer...
Read moreMy rating of this restaurant has steadily gone down over the 4 times I have visited it culminated by today's visit, which will be the last. If you have experienced real bbq from any of the bbq regions in the country, this establishment has no identity. It is a shade better than an average home production. The sandwich portions have steadily gotten smaller with each visit and the ribs are very small. It's very easy to get bored with the menu because it is very small and once again has no regional character or flavor. The one bbq sauce and mustard sauce remind me of a $2.99 bottle of Walmart's store brand. As for the service, the question really is what service? It feels like a fast food culture. Get the customer in, get them their food, and get them out. There are always many employees just standing around behind the long, deli-like counter. This type of restaurant, that I originally thought of renting and hosting an SEC college football Saturday bbq event, resonates with zero culture for any type of attachment to it. It is a very cold and unfriendly environment. The manager who is often on-hand at the restaurant, makes no effort to make you feel at-home or appreciated. I believe he and his approach would be better served at a McDonalds.
With the correct culture and the development of a true bbq identity, I will say that this establishment has great potential to become an awesome landmark, small town destination location for all ages. However, in the current state with the current leadership, neither the food or the experience are worth the price...
