Some of my friends are in Japan—again, and they have been sharing their pics of their food. I decided to share a pic of our tonkatsu. A friend response, “that looks pretty bad”, and I have to agree. Plus, it doesn’t taste so great either.
I’m really disappointed with the service here. We were in line, and we were a party of 2. There were 2 other parties of 2 in front of us.
A staff told the first party of 2 to sit at a table for 4. Why not split the table up? Next, a party of 4 came in behind us. The Staff told them to sit at a table for 8. Aren’t they lucky?
Fortunately, the family (party of 4) asked if anyone one of us would join them. After a quick discussion, we decided to join.
One other frustrating part was the bigger family ordered a chicken katsu and we ordered a tonkatsu. They gave the tonkatsu to the bigger family by mistake, and they finished it. When the staff realized their mistake, the restaurant gave them a new order of chicken katsu. And we still haven’t received our first dish yet. Heck that family was half way done with their meal already. They were complaining about too much food and being too full.
Lastly, it is the fact that we had to find our own soy sauce...
Read moreWe accidentally stumbled across this place and decided to go. I will say this is one of my favorite Katsu places in the area. When you sit down there is a QR code to do individual or party orders.
We ordered the chicken and pork Katsu to share. Both came out super flakey and crispy. You can add on curry as a side, which helps cut the Katsu. It was a little pricy for the size that you received. There is another option that appears to be mostly curry with some Katsu, so maybe that would be a good option if you wanted more curry.
The udon was good too. I would have preferred less shoyu and a little more dashi, but that is a personal preference.
The wait can be long. The staffing is really limited. When we went they were calling out people on the wait list in person so you'll want to be nearby and have someone stay at the area to hear them call for your party.
They mentioned that the prior night the line became too long so they had to cut off the wait-list. We waited around 30-45 minutes with 3 parties in front of us. I thought it was worth the wait.
We'll try and come back to have the other items...
Read moreJungdon Katsu is a new Korean katsu spot that just opened in Danville and they also have a ghost kitchen in Emeryville.
I have mixed feelings on the food. The sushi was fresh and had good portions, but the katsu came out a little overcooked and dry.
What stood out most though was the service and overall cleanliness, which weren't good at all! The tables weren't wiped down very well and customer service felt minimal. Theres barely any interaction with the staff because you order through a QR code and no one comes back to check up on you or refills your water, and the server kept placing our order on top of our trays and food.
If they can tighten up their service and pay more attention to keeping the dining area clean,...
