Lazy weekend mornings are a pleasure I look forward to these days. Spending a lazy weekend morning in a local cafe with a hot tea and pastry is even better. On a recent recommendation from a work colleague, I decided to enjoy this oft repeated vignette of my life at Coffee House Cafe and Goods on Jersey Ridge Road.
I drove out to Coffee House from the East Village north on Jersey Ridge Road. Though the place is pretty big, I missed the initial turn and circled back via the cross street immediately after the cafe. Not a huge deal, I got there easily enough.
There's not a ton of parking immediately outside the location. It definitely strikes me as a cafe designed to service the local community, as in those that can walk to the location from home. Still, I was able to find an open parking spot.
On approach, the most prominent feature of the space is the large patio. There's ample seating available between the many metal chairs at the tables and additional chairs along the patio periphery. Sculpture and raised bed planters further line the space, which I imagine would add additional color and presence in the warmer months.
The interior is similarly warm and unique. Throughout each space a variety of plush and wooden chairs line the space, with lots of tables throughout. Flooring varies from the clean and new looking wood laminate by the entrance to what seems to be existing carpeting in each dining area that appears to have existed in the space prior to this place being a Cafe. Lighting is a combination of suspended fixtures, accent strips, and copious natural light supplied from the large windows. The ceiling in the dining areas is of that stucco/popcorn style with exposed piping and conduit visible to those looking up. The ceiling in the prep area appears very new by contrast - drop ceiling and recessed lighting fixtures.
Everything comes together to tell a story about a building that was a store of some type prior to being a coffee house. It also speaks to the location's further utility as a community gathering space, both due to the ample seating available, but also the board games and books tucked away in one corner. Between this and the soft indie music playing throughout, I can picture spending some serious time here with friends over Settlers of Catan or something similar.
I ended up getting a tea and a pastry, my normal order for a cafe visit. For this particular day, I got a black tea flavored with blueberry, lemon and mint, along with a chocolate chunk muffin. Both were fantastic - the tea was great, even throughout the second steep, and the muffin satisfied my pastry desire that morning. I'd easily come back for both again.
Between the varied seating options, the eclectic furnishings throughout, and the good drinks and pastry, I'd easily come back here again. Especially as the warmer months come around, I'd love to spend a weekend morning hanging out on their patio. Thanks, Coffee House...
Read moreMy wife and I recently went on a delightful vacation to the Quad Cities. During our visit, we were thrilled to get a chance to explore the Q.C. Coffee Trail, which offers visitors a tour of various coffee shops and cafes in both Illinois and Iowa.
Out of the 16 coffee shops that we explored, the Coffee House, nestled in the East Village of Davenport, Iowa, stood out as one of the top three in the Quad Cities. The service we received was not just good, but exceptional, making us feel truly valued and important. The staff members were not just amiable, but also went out of their way to ensure our comfort. The coffee shop's bright and welcoming atmosphere was further enhanced by the beautiful decorations, souvenirs, and delightful treats on display. The entire cafe, including the cozy bathrooms, was impeccably clean and well-maintained.
During our visit, we were pleasantly surprised by the Blink-182-themed menu, which was a unique touch. I tried the 'See You' chai, which was a delightful blend. While I expected to see more of Blink-182's more popular hits on the menu, I appreciated the band-themed concept. My wife, on the other hand, was impressed by the wide range of coffee choices, including lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, drip coffees, espressos, cold brews, and frappes. They also offer smoothies, lotus energy drinks, matcha lattes, hot chocolate, and teas. On our first visit, I sampled the hot prickly pear tea, which was a pleasant surprise.
The only suggestion and request I have for the Coffee House is to add simple sugar to the liquid flavors so that customers can request additional sugar or shots of simple sugar to add to their drinks. Both times we visited, and I asked for simple sugar, they pointed me toward a tray of sugar packets and artificial sweeteners, which was a little inconvenient for me. I prefer a lot of sugar in my drinks, and having to open up ten packets or more for a single drink was tedious. Furthermore, for iced drinks like the lotus energy drinks, it is impossible to get the sugar to dissolve properly, which can be frustrating.
Both my wife and I were delighted by their pastry and dessert bread choices, and the frosted banana bread was an absolutely delicious treat that we highly recommend to everyone. On our first visit, I purchased it and loved it, and before leaving town on our second visit, I bought two more for the trip home. We're going to miss their drinks and their frosted banana bread now that we're back home, as we live about eight hours away by car.
We also had the pleasure of meeting some truly unique and exciting people at the Coffee House. The cafe had a relaxed and friendly vibe that made us feel right at home. If you're ever in the Quad Cities area and are looking for a great place to sit down and enjoy some delicious treats and drinks, we highly recommend the...
Read moreIs this heaven? No it’s (the cutest coffee shop in) IOWA! Seriously! They have a gorgeous outside patio with lots of seating and lots of colorful bright flowers.
Inside there’s a wide arrangement of seating options which makes it a perfect spot for a large group, or just to go and relax to work there. Not too noisy. Free WiFi. About 3 open spaces rooms to choose to sit in. Each very nicely decorated and clean and comfy. Also, they offer a library with a plethora of options. Come here for trivia as well.
Staff is nice and gives good recommendations. Their coffee is fair priced for all the accommodations they have. The ice is the nice ice like sonic or chick fil a has where it’s tiny pebbles. Coffee is sweet but not over the top. Their baked goods are phenomenal as well.
I’d recommend this spot to anyone and everyone. Their shop has random gifts and local crafts and items for sale as well. Perfect for all ages and all people whether you want to work from home, relax, take a call, or just enjoy...
