I was recently recommended Village Corner Deli as a place that makes a good Cuban sandwich. As someone who loves a good Cubano, I resolved to stop in sometime soon. This Saturday, I made the trek from Bettendorf to give the sandwich a try.
After parking across the street, I walked over and entered Village Corner Deli. The place has the general appearance of an established business/building that has continued making improvements over time. The floors are new looking polished grey hardwood laminate and the ceilings are open with suspended dome lights through the counter area. The adjacent dining area has the same grey wood laminate floor with accompanying grey painted wood panel walls. A combination of accent lighting strips and florescent fixtures light this space, which is also decorated with a variety of pictures of Quad Cities landmarks hanging throughout.
I ordered a Cuban sandwich, the main crux of my trip to the deli. It came tor within 10 minutes of ordering. On the whole, it was a pretty good Cubano. The bread was tender, the roast pork and ham had distinct seasonings and textures, and the requisite pickles and mustard were present. The only thing a little off from a normal Cuban sandwich was the presence of pepper jack cheese, grilled onions and grilled bell peppers. While not really true to form for the common ingredients on this sandwich, none detracted from the experience. I actually enjoy the added texture from the vegetables.
I really like the Village of East Davenport, and this visit made me like the area even more! I'm looking forward to coming back here when it gets warmer, possibly to sit outside with a sandwich and take a trip over to the ice cream place across the street after. Thanks, Village...
Read moreWow!! I just visited this Deli for the 1st time. I ordered the Smoked Turkey Rueben half sandwich. (I wish I had ordered a whole!) The sandwich was so delicious I almost forgot to take a photo (which is also why the photos don't look as appetizing-1st 2 pics). We also ordered the Classic pastrami sandwich toasted. The pastrami was so lean, tender and flavorful and toasting it only enhanced the flavor more!! We also enjoyed the potato salad (if you like salads with strong vinegar, then that's for you). The staff were all very enthusiastic, accommodating and personable. I can't wait 'til our next visit.
Update: It's a week later, and we decided to pickup food for the family. Delicious as before!! But this time, we went with the whole sandwiches!! (And I remembered to get photos before we devoured it!-last 4 pics) We had the Smoked Turkey Rueben, the Classic pastrami toasted, the Italian Stallion toasted, and the Cuban (half). So good! So flavorful! The family finished before I could eat half my sandwich! Family highly...
Read moreNew to the Quad Cities area from MSP. Many people including my boss highly recommended this place as BEST SANDWICH SHOP in the Quad Cities and now I understand what the hype is all about.
When I walked in the staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. I asked them what their most popular subs were and the first one they mention was there "Turkey Italiano" 👌 Now that I am a customer for life (because the sandwiches are incredible), other sandwiches I was told to try next time I am in is "The New Yorker" #4, "The Cuban" #5, "The smoked turkey Reuben" #14 and "The Mad Irishman" #16.
Overall experience was awesome. Parking was a little tight but managed, establishment is super nice and super clean, rest rooms were clean, staff and service was great and most importantly the food was incredible. I highly recommend this place and again they now have a customer for...
