My husband and I visited Dayton Coffee Shop this morning for the first time. We were just out driving around, and started looking for a place for lunch we had never been. Anything called a coffee shop, I would normally shy away from; but I'm glad I looked at their menu first. We gave it a try, and were blown away. It's small-town diner at it's best. The meat and three selections were great. Don't get the tomato casserole - you'll thank me. But you can get double of everything else, and will not be disappointed. We went on a friday, so I got the baked ham. I ate it so fast, my husband didn't even get to try it. (Whoops! ) He ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy, and was raving over how good it was. We also got corn nuggets, pinto beans, and mashed potatoes, plus a tossed salad. The bread selection was perfect today. We tried the cornbread, rolls, and hushpuppies (available on Fridays) since we had never been there. All were delicious. We noticed that every table around us (mostly older, retired folks) ordered desserts, so we had to as well. We ordered the chocolate pie and the chocolate cake with cream cheese icing. The pie tasted EXACTLY like I wanted it to. The classic pudding texture with meringue on top was straight out of my childhood. The cake was pretty good, too! I believe all the desserts were homemade. The employees were great. At one point, they all stopped what they were doing to help an elderly couple out of their car and into the restaurant , then back out when the time came. You can tell they pride themselves on community there. The menus and walls are covered with dedications to service men and women. If those walls could talk! I highly recommend visiting if you've never been. We will make the drive from...
Read moreMe and my date Melody stopped in for lunch after a good first visit a few days before. This would Not be a good lunch. I had waited a fee minutes for a Server and then after about 5 minutes longer the Server asked what we wanted for lunch... Since the special was fried chicken I thought why not fried chicken. So I ordered it to which the server said we’re out of fried chicken and I said but that’s your special yeah I know but we ran out of it she say it. My question then was if you knew you were out of it why didn’t you stayed it or put it on the menu we’ve been sitting here for almost 10 minutes before ordering it now to no avail when I get the special for today
Since that was what I wanted I asked Melody if she wanted to stay or leave it where she replied whenever you’d like so I stood up and we together left the restaurant
My thoughts are feeling on this restaurant is that I only gave you one because of my prior experience was a good one I have no desire to go back and also was a little disappointed when lesson three weeks later my Melody chose to go and take her son and future daughter-in-law there... Moral of the story Together we stand and united as One but if we divide we shall Fall...
