Twist can be hit or miss, though I have noticed general improvements since their inception. I've been several times, from their opening day to today and they have been adding to their menu overall, updating the menu board itself (pictures now, yes!), including spice levels, and more.
The food itself is AMAZING and you really can't go wrong with any of it. All the sauces are divine, the toppings are plentiful, and the variety of chutneys makes me do a happy dance when I order. The only slightly disappointing item is the new pulled chicken. It's not that it was bad, it was perfectly pleasant, but it's just basic baked, pulled chicken with little to no seasoning. It's not dry or anything, but with all the other flavorful meats it's just not as good (and yet somehow $1 extra?). Not worth docking a star by any means though.
The hit or miss part is in relation to the service and speed. They definitely struggled with long lines initially but seem to have improved in this area. However if you're not getting a basic menu item (bowl, burrito, etc) you will likely have to wait. That, and they do seem to always be out of a few items when I go even during prime meal hours (I hope it means they got an unexpected rush and business is doing great, rather than poor planning for meal crowds).
Finally, the reason for a docked star and what makes me have a love hate relationship with Twist: the prices. I know that the food is fresh, made well, and all around delicious, but expect to pay more than chipotle for a "chipotle" level establishment. The basic menu items are around $10-$15 and then meat usually gets tacked on (because they are constantly out of tandoori chicken). The Naan, while delightful, is almost $3 for one medium sized piece. Any other side item is naturally an extra cost, no surprise there, but you end up spending quite a pretty penny all together.
If you're not worried about price and flexible in time, definitely give Twist a try.
Couple recs: Korma sauce and smoked tikka sauce are to die for, I often get them both, side by side in the bowl. the tandoori chicken and lamb are 👌👌 mango chutney is super sweet so get it on the side to add in gradually. Pairs really well with the spicy options the mild green chutney is out of this world and I would buy a gallon of it to have at home if I could. So bright and flavorful. if you're familiar with a Lassi these...
Read moreI went to The Twist Indian Grill with my sister today. I usually sit in the car and wait for her to come out with a bunch of samosas that she always share with me. They are so good.
Today I went in because it was too late to start dinner.
The restaurant was very clean and smelled so good. I got to taste Pani Puri for the first time. I loved it. It was like tasting it twice on the tongue. Once in the middle then it hits you in a different way, a great way in the back of the tongue. I was very surprised. It was like opening a fabulous present.
I ordered 2 Loaded Quesadillas. I’m not a vegan like my sister. And they do serve Halal. My quesadilla came with brown rice, chicken and spinach curry. I asked that my husband’s be made with masala rice (spicy), spicy chicken, and spinach curry.
Of course I ordered some samosas to go with it.
The quesadillas are huge. I ate mine (it’s cut in 2 pieces) and will have to save the other half. I tell you mine was so good that I forgot all about the tiny containers of extra sauce.
And it was all under $30!
The service was amazing. I don’t have anything bad to say about it. Food is good and service was great.
I would take a picture but I already ate half and the samosas are so good that they been gone. If you get the samosas dip them in that...
Read moreI picked up takeout. I would not choose to pick up “ASAP” again. It gives you a fifteen minute window. There’s no clear place to go to pick up an order when you go inside. Ended up stuck in line for a minute. By the time I got home with my order (a 5 minute drive) the food was cold. Not a big deal except the seasoned fries were very oily so they got mushy and mealy. The fries and naan seemed store bought which is disappointing. My husband and I both ordered rice bowls with tandoori chicken. Both were perfectly spicy with good, authentic flavor but were quite dry, even with tikka sauce and spinach curry. There was also a lot of cilantro in each dish which is not advertised and was quite unexpected. Fresh cilantro in a sauce (typical at Indian restaurants) is usually fine with me, but because the dish was so dry, it was so overpowering, very similar to cilantro rice from a chain burrito restaurant. I have that gene where fresh cilantro tastes like soap to me, so that was a bit unpleasant. I liked the other flavors a lot, especially the tamarind chutney, but the chicken and rice were so dry, it was hard to enjoy. I will probably be back to try the chaat sometime, but so far, this restaurant ranks low/mid on Dayton’s list of...
