We’ve been going there since about 1985, (38 years) back when it was the Rose Garden and they still had a liquor license so we had to stop in to see what changed. My wife ordered the #2 almond chicken and I ordered the #5 sweet and sour. It was around 1pm so it was the lunch special but I became concerned when I saw only one other booth was occupied.
The first thing I noticed was the absence of the container of plum sauce usually on the tables and the paper napkins were replaced with a cloth napkin folded into a rose type shape. The switch to a cloth napkin turned out to be a great idea because those paper napkins were never really up to the task anyway.
The egg roll arrived quickly (with a small bowl of plum sauce) along with the egg drop soup, both tasted freshly made and rushed to the table. The only difference I noticed was the addition of little chopped rings of green onion to the egg drop soup, a little more to chew with a bit of bite but tasty nonetheless.
And then the main course arrived. The usual oval stainless platter with a lid that we had to spoon whatever portions we wanted onto our plates was gone, replaced by long divided rectangular plates. One side had some very flavorful fried rice, the other side had the battered chicken, and the center had a good sized square bowl of the sweet & sour sauce, or gravy for the almond chicken my wife ordered.
Everything tasted fresh, without the nastiness of rancid oil of some restaurants. Plenty remained so the server gave us a couple foam containers so we could take some doggy bags home, which was perfect since I prefer to do it ourselves.
Before the check arrived, we were offered to select fortune cookies from a large bowl. I’ve made so many posts when things go wrong that it’s a pleasure to finally report when things go right.
My concern about us being the only customers in the restaurant certainly couldn’t be the food because it was excellent. Maybe the pandemic has something to do with it but it’s 2023, stay safe but also enjoy life whenever possible.
We plan on trying a restaurant on West Rd in Trenton and another in Dundee for a comparison but at least now we have a baseline. Delish may be...
Read moreIt took me a while to figure out if they were open because I couldn't find the door while driving by but that's my fault of course This restaurant used to be a traditional Chinese food restaurant but they have changed the name and updated their menu to Thai and a full bar. Now don't charge it to my heart but I have not been in this area for quite some time. I'm oh so glad that I stopped by to see what was in the area to eat. Upon entering the restaurant they have beautiful and inviting decor. I was really impressed. I was with a party of 3 total including a lil nugget We were seated promptly and given ice waters. They had cloth napkins on the table and everything! I wanted to order an appetizer but didn't want to appear greedy so I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. They were offering a special of the day which gave soup with all entrees. My friend ordered sweet and sour chicken with shrimp fried rice and added extra shrimp. They also had a ginger salad that was included with the meal. My lil nugget ordered sesame chicken with shrimp fried rice and an egg roll. She didn't want the egg roll so I happily took it off her hands Just not to continue a lengthy review: EVERYTHING was so fresh, hot, and delicious . The portions were enormous and the service was impeccable even though they were pretty busy for a Friday night! I CANNOT WAIT TO COMEBACK but these leftovers will last me quite a while!!!! Do yourself a favor and drop in on them. I promise you won't be...
Read moreThis is the worst Chinese Restaurant I have ever eaten at. Please do not go here. I am dumbfounded on how they have a 4 star review unless there are some fake reviews in here. Took my kids here and starting from the appetizer to the main course everything seemed to be heated in the microwave. The appetizer meat was half cooked (raw) and tasteless. The main dish I ordered was stone cold when put on the table. When I asked for it to be fixed they took the plate saying they will saute it again but when it was brought back you could tell it was simply microwaved. All the main dishes were equally tasteless. The fried rice was completely a gob of salt and half cooked rice - again that feeling of food that is stored frozen and then microwaved and placed in front of you. Interestingly even for dishes which we ordered that require sauteing there was hardly any smell of flavors coming from the kitchen which is quite typical in any restaurant especially Asian cuisine. When we asked for extra sauce they did not tell us it will cost extra but everything was charged on the check. The heights of this is that on the check they charged us Inflation fee!!!!!. What is inflation fee on top of the already inflated menu prices - for what I can tell was simply microwaved tasteless food???? Very dissatisfied and I do not recommend this place at all. Unfortunately 1 star is the minimum I can select otherwise I would give this restaurant negative stars if that...
