Review of Hong Kong Restaurant
As a resident just a two-minute stroll away, I was excited to check out the newly opened Hong Kong Restaurant, especially with their appealing lunch special priced at just nine dollars. I had high hopes for a delicious meal, envisioning a delightful experience filled with authentic flavors. However, my visit turned out to have its share of highs and lows, leading to a rather varied impression.
To start, I received over 2 pounds of food, which includes the egg roll—a decent portion size for a lunch special. However, I'd prefer to pay slightly more for better-quality meals.
Beginning with the egg roll, I found it quite disappointing—unquestionably the worst I've encountered. Unfortunately, it was soggy and mushy, having been left to sit in its box without any separate packaging. The texture was unappealing, and the filling lacked any discernible flavor, making for a rather bland experience.
On a brighter note, the fried rice exceeded my expectations; it was delicious and enjoyable. However, I wished there had been more of it, as my portion felt limited in comparison to the generous serving of sesame chicken due to the portion where the rice was set, the container is a three compartment container therefore, it looks like there’s a decent amount of rice, but there really is not.
Speaking of the sesame chicken, while it was decent, it certainly didn’t impress. The chicken was particularly tough and difficult to chew, and the sauce deviated from the classic flavors I typically associate with sesame chicken. Overall, I wouldn't consider ordering it again The sesame chicken was quite frankly disgusting. I eat, maybe five pieces of it and just because of how tough the meat was it just wasn’t worth eating more of it.
Despite my reservations about the food, I was genuinely pleased with the customer service. The young woman working there was respectful, kind, and welcoming, which made my visit much more pleasant. Her positive demeanor gives me hope to revisit and explore other menu items, such as the chicken and broccoli, which I’m curious to try.
In summary, if you are in search of excellent fried rice, this may be the spot for you. Yet, I remain uncertain about returning for the egg rolls or sesame chicken. Here’s to hoping for a better experience on...
Read moreCash or credit, variety of dishes including a limited Thai selection, most combinations include fried rice and egg roll, good warm dinner rolls but could have used some butter, plum sauce is good (much better than duck sauce most places try to get away with), chow mein of course comes with crispy noodles instead of rice, and lastly soy sauce packets and a fortune cookie are included. The fortune cookie was okay, but an ad on the back of the fortune was in my opinion disappointing to see and commercializes something that shouldn't be. The take out container was filled, but leaked despite being wrapped in cling wrap and caused my next observation. The steam and amount of sauce begins to soften the crispy noodles packed in the styrofoam container with entree and if not eaten right away would ruin them. I prefer places that package crispy noodles in a separate container to maintain freshness and in the event of leftovers. No plastic utensils were included. I usually avoid pork at these sorts of restaurants, but I have no issues with the amount or quality here. Value quantity, acceptable quality, take out only, and large selection would receive a higher rating with only a few modifications and some...
