I usually give an establishment three chances before I post a review. I will do my best to be fair. In all three of my visits I have purchased coffee beans, once green and twice roasted. I am coffee roaster myself and I just want to see whether the Yemeni coffee they get is different from what I get and how differently does it taste than the one I roast. Consistently the staff was very unenthusiastic to serve me. My last visit was today Oct 14th at 11:20 am (and definitely the very last). The young girl working there took my order, passed it on to a guy and did nothing in the meantime as if weighing beans on a scale requires some special skill. The guy was serving some dessert to some couple and he seemed confused about something. I was made to wait a long time. And when he came to serve me, there was not a smile on his face or an apology for the wait. Fine. Then he went back behind his cash register and he seemed to be in a state of confusion again. 30 seconds later (which seemed like an eternity) he asked for $7 ( I had a ordered a 1/4 lbs). I asked how much was the pound and he replied $13. I said then it should be less than $7. Then he corrected himself he said the pound is 25. I said it still should be less than 7. I am normally charitable to businesses and I give tips a lot, but I was not in that mood today and was definitely wanting the last penny. I then explained that half of 25 is 12.5 which means that I should pay 6.25. Then with a smirk on his face he tried to explain to me that the 1/2 a pound is $13, therefore he's justified in asking for $7. I was in disbelief. I shook my head and this confused dude, turned away to signal that he's done with me. I wanted to make a scene, but I had my daughter with me. So I decided to resort to Google reviews. I feel bad to be giving a coffee roastery a bad review. But I will not be setting foot in this place again. Their green beans are of good quality. Their medium roasted beans are slightly underdeveloped, but are good. Their dark roast, is simply not drinkable because it's way too dark and tarry. Their brewed coffee that I had on my second visit is ok, but nothing to write home about. Their water to coffee ratio is a little on the low side so there's considerable bitterness. But that's how arabs usually drink their coffee because they mainly drink it with either sweets, sugar...
Read moreHi so I'm not usually the type to write long reviews like this — I feel kind of lame doing it — but I rlyyy need to say this
I love Qahwah House, just not this location. The drinks here are consistently off — either too sweet, too bitter, or just generally unpleasant. The Adeni chai is pretty solid, but their iced lattes are kinda thick, and they tend to leave a layer of syrup or sweetener at the bottom of the cup. One could assume the novelty is in mixing it yourself, but the syrup or honey (or whatever it is) is so thick that it barely blends, no matter how much you stir.
That’s not even my biggest issue tho. My main complaint is with their matcha. I've tried the regular, banana, and strawberry matcha — each on a separate visit — hoping maybe the last one was just an anomaly, especially since I’ve heard good things about their matcha. But I honestly can’t express how poorly it’s made. The matcha separates almost immediately, clumping at the bottom, which usually means it was either burnt or not prepared correctly. It tastes extremely bitter with a weird artificial aftertaste.
Unfortunately the flavored ones are not any better. On top of the poorly mixed matcha, they add this thick, flavored milk that sits at the bottom of the cup. It kinda just moves around strangely when you try to stir it, kind of like mixing in expired milk. It’s unappetizing and honestly hard to drink because there’s just so many like chunks of this flavored milk liquid thing.
Anyway I really wanted to love this location so this is very saddening for me. I’m...
Read moreQahwa House is an absolute gem in the world of coffee shops. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The cozy decor, coupled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, immediately put me at ease. The coffee here is simply outstanding.
