JJ Fish & Chicken (Eldorado Street) — Restaurant in Decatur

Just ate here for the first time and we were absolutely impressed first of all buy the service. First rate! The young men running the place went above and beyond to please us and even gave us some samples to try when considering our next visit. My wife and I both chose the JJ's special, a catfish filet, walleye filet, 2 wings, hushpuppies and fries. Plus an assortment of sauces to go with. Everything is prepared and cooked fresh so be aware that when your food arrives it is HOT! The catfish is excellent with a clean catfish flavor and light breading. The walleye is actually breaded walleye and not some generic whitefish a lot of places try to pass off as walleye, again excellent. The chicken wings as well were lightly battered flavorful and crisp. Everything was dusted lightly with a lemon pepper seasoning that brightened the flavors just enough. We had some shrimp to sample and they were fresh and had that slight snap to the bite which well prepared shrimp should have. First rate food at reasonable prices. Well done!

If there is one down side it would be that JJ's is carry out. There is no inside dining. HOWEVER these young men gave us use of their break table for our meal. Greatly appreciated! You guys have earned repeat customers for sure and we will gladly recommend JJ's to family and friends.

I arrived to pickup my Order n seen that there were 2 orders ready for pick up. I paid for my Order n a lady came in after me n a the young lady handed the lady her order. The young lady never even looked to see if the other order that was ready was for me. So I sat for 10-15 minutes waiting for my Order. While she talked to her coworker. Then One young lady goes to the restroom n the other starts talking on her Cell Phone. Never even checking the order in the window. The young lady comes out the restroom. She started talking to her coworker again. Then takes out her phone but realized I have not received my order. So when I get my ORDER the steam from the food had made the bag wet bc it has sat in the WINDOW So Long!!! My Order had been in the window before I arrived and the whole time I waited in the lobby. I haven’t been here in years due to moving away but I think they used to be pretty good. I tried to order a catfish and shrimp dinner but they were already out of shrimp before noon. It’s true that their phone NEVER rings, so don’t try to call ahead. The customer service is sooo bad that before I was even able to finish my order, I decided that they wouldn’t get my hard earned money! The clerk was irritated I was asking questions about their menu! They feel entitled as if YOU should be glad they’re serving you, not the other way around.
