The Imperial — Restaurant in Decatur

Beware I have never felt the racism in Decatur until I came here. I’ve been looking for place to take my employees locally and I heard the pretzels and burgers were good.

I was not greeted verbally by Jami (the Bartender) but got a stares when I sat at the bar. There was less than 10 patrons in the establishment. Only after a Caucasian woman was greeted who came in after me was serviced I was asked, “what do I want to drink?” This is the same caucasian woman I attempted to hold the door open for as I entered first but she wouldn’t grab the handle. She let the door shut.

While seated at the bar, Jami took a long time to acknowledge me again with only two other females at the bar. She kept her distance and had little interaction with me while she stay on the opposite end of the bar looking at me.

After a while, I was asked, “do you know what you want?” I got what I mentioned earlier. I asked, “ Do any condiments come on the burger?” Jami replied no. So, when I received my to go order, I had something white all over the tomato and inquired. Jami ignored me the first three times I tried to get her attention. Finally, she works her way over. I asked the question and she said. “I don’t know what that is.”

Jamie takes the to go container over to the trash can and stick her finger in it to remove the tomato and yelled to the kitchen staff, “give me another tomato.” Why is the bartender, Jami, touching my food instead of sending it back. She was touching the cash register, drink and beer dispensers, and wiping down equipment all with no gloves on. I’ve never seen nothing like this before. No refund nor apology and then as I was exiting the door, I was told to, “have a good day here. Eric B and Rakim - Follow the Leader was playing but the entire time I was there it was white Pop music playing.

I Went To The Imperial Today For The First Time Me, My Brother, And His Daughter We Ended Up There Because We Was Looking For The Impossible Burger And They Had It And The Restaurant Had Good Reviews... So When We Got There It Seemed Like A Cozy Atmosphere 👌🏾Filled With Locals So We Decided To Eat In The Burgers 🍔 Was Very Good The Restaurant Was Nice....(now lets get to the 2 stars ⭐️)....We Sat For A Minute Before Anyone Took Our Drink Orders Until This Older Gentleman (in a green shirt) Which Was VERY NICE BY THE WAY Was Walking By And Asked Had Anyone Took Our Drink Orders We Said No So He Took Our Drink Orders So After He Came Back Our Waitress Showed Up With A VERY Nasty Look On Her Face (in a burgundy Nike shirt) Like We Ruined Her Day So She Sat Down “what you gone have” No Hello How Are You, I’m ————I’ll Be Your Server None Of That So She Taking Our Order With That Same Mean Look On Her Face.....Before She Walked Away I Said Excuse Me Do You Have Any Splenda She Said WHAT! With The Same Mug On Her Face, I Repeated Myself So She Brings Me Back Four Packs Of Splenda And THREW THEM ON THE TABLE TO ME!!! I Let That Slide I Thought That That Was How She Was With Everyone So I Observed And It Was Only Us That She Looked At With Disgusts Everyone Else She’s All Smiles So I Ask For A Refill On My Unsweet Tea And Once Again I Asked For Splenda And It Was THREW ON THE TABLE AGAIN!!!! I Kept My Cool 😎 And Tried To Enjoy The Meal Once We Was Done My Niece Needed A To-Go Box The Waitress Grabbed A To-Go Box And Said Here You Go “GIRL” 😒😒 NEVER AGAIN!!! IN LIFE!!! She Really Makes The Restaurant Look Bad ....I LIVE TO LOVE EVERYONE AND TREAT EVERYONE WITH RESPECT AND KINDNESS AND I TEACH MY KIDS AND KIDS...

Very disappointing. I've visited twice, only returning in hopes that my initial visit was a fluke. The beer list is terrible, it was really difficult to find even a single beer that I would want to drink for free, much less pay for. The food was memorably bad both times.

On the positive side, the service was a little slow but not bad overall. And the vibe seems pretty lively, but could seem a bit too loud and busy if a big game is on.

May 2017 Update: I came back one last time on a weekday afternoon looking for a change. 10+ minutes after arriving and not getting any help, I found my own menus and asked the bartender if they still had a beer listed on the menu. They had never even heard of the beer. When asked if I could get some help, the bartender said, "oh, your server is over there talking to a few people." After waiting several more minutes with no help, we had to leave. Too many other good options in Decatur to be ignored for 15min by people who don't know the...
