There are some positive things to be said about Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee. Unfortunately, none of them are related to the actual donuts. The shop is welcoming, designed well and located in a booming, recently gentrified area of Atlanta. The employees working the day I entered the shop with my gf were professional, friendly and behaved in a way that gave us the impression that they really believed in their product. With all of this working in their favor, I'm sure you're thinking, "How could this have gone left?". Well, since 2016 we've made it a goal to visit a donut shop local to every place that we travel. On this day, we were in Atlanta. I grew up on Krispy Kreme Donuts and in recent years, had an affair with Sublime Donuts of Atlanta. So now was the time to try something new. I could probably go on for hours about the level of disgust I had after tasting the Revolution Doughnuts I bought, but I'll try to sum it up in a few statements. This was, by far, the worst donut experience I have ever had. The donuts we tried were not the worst tasting donuts ever, but they were definitely a close second. They were dry, weird tasting and had an awful after taste. After reading the glowing reviews online, we could barely contain our excitement to try a new shop in the city I call home. This elation was met with sheer disappointment, to the point that I joked about throwing the box of donuts back over the counter. I nearly asked the employees to taste them to see if we had just received a bad batch. But I wanted nothing more than to leave and never return. It's rare that I leave reviews on anything. However, I felt the overwhelming need to tell this story and share such a terrible experience. I imagine our incident is an isolated one, since other reviews...
Read moreFor our family, this would be a special event donut shop, like my parents are coming in from out of town and I want to get them something special. (I’m saying they are fancy but expensive. For seven donuts and a small coffee and a tip I spent over $30.)
The flavors are upscale and creative- orange pistachio, banana creme pie, blackberry rose jam filled and they use high quality ingredients but I felt like their dense texture made them more like pretty desserts than breakfast food donuts. My kids, who are teenagers, said they just wanted something simpler when I brought them home.
My very favorite donut I ate was a savory one -an everything bagel donut filled with cream cheese- brilliant! To me, a small detail made this donut stand out, there were caraway seeds in the topping. It gave the donuts the kick to take them from really good to amazing.
Staff were friendly and efficient gathering my donuts and making my cafe Americano. Staff and everyone who came in was also masked up (I’m writing this during the omicron surge) so even though it’s a small space, I felt safer.
The store has worked really hard to make their brand look cohesive and cool, from the funky storefronts to the graphic design on their boxes and cups.
Want to impress someone with a gift of designer donuts? Revolution will make you look good.
Want a box of donuts for an average Saturday with the kids? It’s a pretty expensive treat and they’d probably rather just have a regular glazed from...
Read moreI was desperately searching this morning for a non commercial coffee shop. In the middle of I had no ideal, i found this place. It is a gorgeous location and the displays were enticing. I ask a customer on the way out the door if the coffee was good, she said yes, but make sure you get a doughnut, especially the peach Slider. I immediately jumped on that doughnut cause when I walked in and say this, please see photo, I wanted the whole case full. I got some dark coffee, this is a rarity around these parts. Then I say an "ugly" that's what we call fritters. It was a blueberry fritter. This was something I had never seen so I jumped on it also. I was determined to get back to Griffin to share these treats with the family. Unfortunately my sugar dropped real low and I need some sweet relief. I tore into that blueberry fritter like a kid on Christmas morning. I advice all under 18 readers to stop here. The blueberry fritter was stale, old and crusty. It was like someone fried some dough halfway rolled it in blueberries and fried it some more. It had the crunch of fried chicken. The only thing I can compare it to would be old stale monkey bread with blueberries. It ripped apart like monkey bread but it was the second worst pastry I have ever experienced. I haven't tried the peach, I'm going to get the kids to try it first, but I'll never stop here again. I don't know how to add photos to this...
