The Wagon — Restaurant in Decatur

went down to visit friends who moved to Decatur, I looked up places to eat and read a lot of great reviews, sadly those reviews put us here. We waited for a table for over an hour even though people were leaving. The older guy that seemed to be owner or manager would not seat anyone even though the girl that was the hostess kept asking him, come 720pm he went and locked the doors. people were leaving from the bar and in the small area to wait in. we already invested an hour so we set the line at 10 more minutes. well Finally 5 mins later we were seated. I really feel they were trying to see if everyone would just leave. The waitress was great, quick polite and did not make us feel rushed, bartender that brought out my water on the other hand not to pleasant. 2 of us got the fried chicken, the other had a steak, she said it was good. As for the world famous fried chicken, not so much. I have literally driven 500 miles to try fried chicken and this is not even in the top 20, maybe it was the end of the night and we got the semi warm last batch but yea not even a contender in my book. the fact that it is 3 pieces is even stranger to me and you pay extra for all whit meat, but as it happens that is basically what i got even though I did not want it, the leg tasted ok, the first breast was not the greatest and the 2nd one was dried out. I have no idea what the big deal is about this place but maybe just maybe I would try again and give it another shot...

Hello all, so I stopped at the wagon restaurant on Woodford tonight because I heard they sold a really great whole catfish and I wanted to try it out , well I ordered and when it arrived at my table it looked great, & fried well , I thought okay , but Lauren behold as I started to try it I could smell a old and musty smell before making it to my mouth. I asked the waitress if they sale very much whole catfish because mines was old and musty smelling, she said with her face turn up , that it was fresh, well I couldn't eat it nor could anyone else in my party. I paid 70.00 bucks for our food and not one manager ,cook, or other employees came to check on us , disappointing for sure . Not only that , we were of course , were the only black family there !! Somewhat disappointed. Service was mediocre. Took a while to get the order placed, and not once did we get our server back before the end of our meal. Our sandwiches, which were good (catfish and big burger), were supposed to come with "homemade chips" which the server offered to us. We got regular potato chips. Same kind you buy in a Lay's bag. When we asked (at the end of our meal when we finally grabbed our server), we were told, " Well, we ran out. We serve them for lunch and whatever is left over we use for dinner". Wow.
