At first the atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were kind, but as our meal continued everything just went downhill. Although the service was alright ( I must add that the guy refilling water and giving us bread was exceptional and truly an amazing person ) our waiter Christian, though once again kind, rarely checked up on us after we asked for a few more minutes. We also were distraught after realizing that there were no pictures provided on the menus, neither online or in person. This left us confused and with many questions on portion sizes, looks, and even what the meals had ( for the chicken kabob the only description is the fact that the kabobs were made out of chicken; never would have guessed wow ). Otherwise there were many items on the menu but many, especially the appetizers, were unappealing and rather boring for a steep price. Eventually, after waiting around 35 minutes with just water and bread ( thanks to the bread guy ), we finally received our appetizer which were the stuffed mushrooms. Although questionable at first, and also very insufficient amount for the price, they were the BEST thing we ate there. After waiting another 30 ish minutes with much hunger, we finally received our entrees which were two lemon chickens and another chicken meal that was wrapped in some sort of pastry. With these we also received two lemon chicken soups and a salad. Though I do indulge myself when it comes to sour food, including lemons, the lemon only further ruined the chicken as it was already. The soup was an absolute JOKE! The lemon base was alright, but the chicken was nonexistent, microscopic, literal wood splinters in our soup. The texture of the potatoes only worsened the mush of a soup that we had. I know I cannot talk about the salad nor the other meal, but they were reviewed by my friend as simply average. The lemon chicken was also exactly like the soup, which was not received well by my friend and I, the zucchini being the only decent thing on our plate as our rice was far too salty as well. Completely destroyed with what we were served with, we decided that desert was not an option, and decided to ask for the bill. Thinking it couldn’t be any worse, we were very wrong, we watched for an extra 10 minutes as Christian our waiter heavily messed up our money. First of all, one of my friends was charged an extra chicken when we asked to split the bill three ways, which we had to call Georgie the manager of 25 years ( very important information for when we’re trying to get our money back ). And my other friend who payed in cash, was seen as a fraud for when the waiter couldn’t find the 20 dollars in the pocket of the bill card and not wanting to cause any further issues as we panicked even though we knew we had each payed our sums respectfully, I decided to give my card to pay for the amount. Then after 2 seconds my friend saw the amount but I had already been charged the money for her meal, INCLUDING the extra 2 ish dollars for using card rather than cash. Overall, do not suggest coming here as the service and food were not on par for the price and the good ratings it...
Read moreIt was the most foul-smelling and tasting lamb I have ever eaten. Three 8 person tables for this party, and nobody touched the lamb at any of the tables for a reason. The servers are handing you plates in your hand and expecting you to swap them the dirty plate sitting in front of you on the table. The greek salad was bland with just olive oil as the dressing. The chicken with some thick snot like sauce that looks like it came out of a sewer. You should be ashamed. Yesterday was the second time I was here and only because it was a birthday party. Imagine choosing this restaurant to celebrate your birthday and they spit in youy and your guests face? Horrible food, horrible service, and overall an ugly restaurant.
UPDATE: The owner Sam saw the above review and contacted the host of the party asking him who left this review and to take it down. Let that sink in. I had no problem calling Sam and telling him everything above and more. The most interesting part was when I brought up the lamb smelling stinky and tasting old. He said, "we COOK it fresh," and I said "yea but it's probably been sitting raw in your refrigerator for two weeks," and there were several seconds of awkward silence. I even acknowledged that silence as meaning I probably have it about right. Sam, as much as you seemed to dislike me leaving a review and calling me a "smart a$$ trying to take your business down" I think it is just difficult for you to hear the truth. And this is America, I can have an opinion about your stinky old lamb. I am glad you can boast on the phone for being in business for 20 some years and maybe the food used to be good. Or maybe yesterday was an off night, or you missed a shipment of fresher lamb and had to use lamb sitting in the freezer for a couple of months. I dont know. But the truth is the truth, and hopefully, your ego, which seems so big, can be put aside for the sake of the quality of your food and service.
You told me never to come to your restaurant again and I told you I wouldn't eat there if it was free and I was starving. Then you hung up on me.
But imagine having the owner of the restaurant call the host of the party to figure out who left the bad review. That is more desperate and pathetic than any 2 month frozen but "fresh cooked" lamb. Makes me think what his rating would be if he didn't bully people about negative reviews.
Greek food is truly delicious. There are many places to find it in. It is NOT Demetri's. And if you are thinking about hosting a party there, hopefully your guests don't leave a review or Sam the owner will come...
Read moreToday I called in a gyro with fries, avgolemono and a cheesecake baklava. For my Greek son. JP ( Vangelis) His ne comment after all the yumms expressions while he was eating in between going from one class to the next was…” … mom I have been owed this for 3000 years!!!…” I have to say that our son he’s the youngest of 4 and all raised with our Yia Yia living with us and cooking every single Greek food that they learn to love. Growing up! The only place we eat today that our Yia Yia is not able to cook anymore is at our second home Demetri’s Greek Restaurant in Deerfield!! Food excellent! Food temperature perfection!! We dine inn at least 3 to 4 times a month if not more this is not counting their amazing! Scrambled where you get the most delicious and fresh and most absolutely amazing breakfasts and brunches ❤️ As for the waiters, waitresses and buzz boys they are ALL kind, welcoming, amazing disposition. I have to say that in our family it was my lucky day I married my absolutely extraordinary wonderful Greek husband that introduced me into all this millennial culture of kindness, taste of good fresh food. Demetri’s Greek Restaurant has honored the Greek Mediterranean Diet made it a trend and. Made it become so popular here in the Nothern Suburbs. Thank you so much Demetri’s Greek restaurant for keeping it real. The prices are so reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant. More than any of my compatriot French restaurants in the whole Chicago l!!! Actually it pains me to say that the best french food is still in my home unfortunately. Luckily for All of US we have Demetri’s to go eat authentic Greek cuisine and what...
