Bottom Line Up Front: If you're looking for a quick down and dirty, here it is. The Atmosphere, Drinks, Food Trucks and Food sold by MCO is slightly above average. The service was a 0/10 as the General Manager and Servers seemed to not like the military audience that goes there. I would recommend going to another bar on the same street if you’re looking to have a good time. If you’re fine with drinking a few beers, sitting down, and not singing during a karaoke night MCO may be for you.
Most Recent Visit: We show up to MCO for a surprise birthday party. It started off normal enough, everyone drinking and having a good time, but upon getting my first drink is when things declined. We order a few ciders and the glasses they were poured in was larger than the glasses they should have used, I guess. One of the servers told our server to put it in a different glass even though they were already poured. When we asked if we could just take the extra 2 ounces from each glass instead of pouring it down the drain, we were told no and down the drain about 10 ounces went. The next 30/40 mins went by without a hitch, but then the music cut off and the General Manager made an announcement. The announcement was, “We have received reports that people have been chugging beers in the bathroom and we will not have that on our property.” She also threatened to call the base multiple times. I completely agree with the rules and do not think anyone should be doing that. The message was directed at our table, but no names were named. I asked around and all I could find out was that a few people took glass cups to the bathroom, but no one was chugging them. I also agree that glass cups or any beer should be taken to the bathroom so if that happened, it should have been dealt with. The way in which the General Manager handled it was completely inappropriate. The message was more confrontational than informational. The next 45 mins went on without a hitch again, but again rudely grinding to a halt. My wife and another wife were singing some Karaoke and the General Manager again rips the microphone out of the wives hands and cuts the music. This time the message was directed at our table. She mentioned she had cut someone off from drinking and the one she pointed at had very few drinks and was not disruptive or causing any trouble. She was very aggressive in telling us that buying drinks for him, which I believe was his drink from before, would not be tolerated and we had to close our tabs and leave immediately. Mind you, other individuals that were well more intoxicated than this person were still getting served. I don’t disagree that if someone is cut off, and someone else buys them a drink it is not acceptable, but you have to be fair when using the hammer on everyone. The way she handled this situation was one of the rudest and disrespectful ways of handling things in the customer service industry. Both my wife and I have worked in customer service and my wife more specifically worked for many bars and would never do what this General Manager did. Upon her completion would kicking us out, a few people clapped. I don’t know if they were locals, loyal customers, or actually thought we were being disruptive by singing and dancing during a karaoke night……., but that also left a sour taste in my entire groups mouth. My wife talked to the General Manager after all this had happened because we reserved the tables for a set amount of time and the entire group was getting kicked our for what happened to a few. The GM said that she’s had problems with “military” people in here before and that floored me when I heard it as they act as if they are large supporters of the military with patches going down the hallway to the bathrooms. This whole experience has confirmed to me and a large majority of the group I was with that we will not be going to...
Read moreI paid for a table for 30 for a surprise birthday party and instead we were surprised by the GM trying to publicly embarrass the entire military group that was with our party. There was someone in our group that apparently wasn’t following rules and instead of asking said person to leave the GM ripped the microphones from my hands + another wife’s hands during karaoke and told us we all had to close out and leave. This is apparently not the first occasion the GM has made degrading comments towards groups of the military that have come in because little did I know people have stopped going there after being greeted with uncomfortable conversation when they were not even part of this “group” of people she says cause trouble. I booked the table for 3 hours and we were asked to leave after two. 20-30 minutes into our reservation the GM was already on the microphones threatening to call the military base and none of us had any idea what was even going on. I introduced myself as soon as I arrived as the person that booked the reservation so any issues could’ve been brought to my attention. I couldn’t imagine working somewhere and treating a customer this way or actually any human in general. I did pull the GM aside and ask what was even going on and I explained how past problems with other groups shouldn’t be reflected on a military group as a whole and how I thought their actions were uncalled for and so inappropriate. All in all it seems they have issues with military members and what was supposed to be a fun night out for my husbands birthday turned into staffing behavior that won’t have us coming back. Honestly the whole night was uncomfortable and I had a gut feeling when the first comments were made we should leave but everyone was having a good time and I had already paid for the table. Staff was constantly staring and pointing at us saying rude things to us ect. If they wanted us to leave or didn’t like something that was happening they could’ve nicely and quietly addressed it with me or the person in question. Even more embarrassingly everyone was texting me after asking why the GM physically ripped the microphones from our hands and why we even got asked to leave. Mind you I don’t really drink so I had 1 beer (barely) and I’m still in complete shock at how chaotic the experience was and that a place conducts...
Read more"I've seen this place undergo several changes in atmosphere over the two years I’ve been a member. The negative reviews seem to accurately reflect what I’ve experienced and heard from others, though it’s important to note that many of the comments focus on the more critical aspects.
Originally, I bought a membership expecting the benefits to be consistently available, but it often feels like access and the promised perks are only provided when it’s convenient for the management.
Unfortunately, this establishment no longer seems to cater to families as it once did. They appear less welcoming of children, which is a shift from earlier times.
Additionally, with the new liquor license, they’ve become stricter about taking drinks outside for events like parades, which has affected the overall vibe. This has also made interactions with the management less friendly.
On a recent visit, I was disrespected as a member when the bar was closed for a private event. While they’ve previously allowed both members and non-members access to the indoor facilities during ticketed events, that wasn't the case this time. I’ve spent a lot of time and money here, and this experience made me feel undervalued as a loyal member.
I’m also curious whether they are still selling memberships, as it seems they might be limiting access to avoid potential legal issues related to private events.
Either way, I still consider myself a member, and it’s disappointing not to receive the promised perks, especially when the event was not even taking place in the indoor area.
While this place may suit those looking for a particular Austin vibe with Austin attitude. It no longer aligns with my expectations. I’ll be reconsidering recommending it to friends in...
