We were excited to try this new restaurant out as we don't get many new places to eat in Del Rio. We arrived at 8:13 on a Friday. It was pretty busy but not crazy, with a 15 top party that was eating already and mainly 2 and 4 tops. It has a big city vibe and gives locals a chance to dress up which is a welcome option.
We sat at our 2 top before the manager Carlos, noticed we didn't have water which he took care of quickly. He then quickly grabbed a server and told us he would be our server.
We ordered mozzarella Mexican meatballs as an appetizer. Three meatballs injected with a shot of mozzarella in the middle. With 3 tiny pieces of bread laid to the side. The meatballs sat in a red pepper sauce and the meatballs tasted like beanie weanies. Needless to say we weren't impressed.
For our main meals we ordered fish tacos and Alfredo pasta. I paid $7 more for them to add chicken for some protein. We waited 45 minutes before asking where our food was. It took another 10 minutes to get our food.
The fish on the fish tacos were deep fried fish sticks with nothing else on it. It sat on some delicious tortillas though! With a side bowl of soggy cole slaw and 4 slices of avacado on the plate. Definitely not worth $20 they charged for it. My girlfriend had never had a scallop before so she ordered 1, and it was $12. It was rubbery, fishy tasting and undercooked.
I had the pasta Alfredo with added chicken on it. The pasta was slightly smaller than the size of udon noodles which means the pasta was very thick. I couldn't taste anything but the noodles. They maybe put half of a chicken breast worth of chicken on top which sure as hell wasn't worth $7.
The music was all over the place from rock and roll to sweet home Alabama so it was a strange vibe in the place by the time we left.
In conclusion, you are better off going to Texas Roadhouse or...
Read moreLast week I had the opportunity to wine and dine at Ocho Dos Dos when I went to Del Rio to visit my parents. I was there a few nights (ok every night), so I was able to try different plates and drinks. I was thoroughly impressed with the selection and quality of the food. Definitely enjoyed the escargot with the brie, the steak was cooked perfectly, and I am still dreaming about the bread pudding dessert! My compliments to the chef and shout out to the back of the house.
Cannot say enough amazing things about the drinks I had. First off, as a wine drinker I was so happy to have delectable wine options as I myself prefer dry wines (not sweet). There’s definitely something for everyone. And the cocktails…wow. I was trying hard not to mix my alcohol but honestly they were all so yummy and creative! The bartenders truly know what they’re doing and embrace the art of a cocktail. They’re also all super friendly and will help create something special for you!
Last but not least - the service and hospitality was above and beyond. Everyone was very friendly and I received top notch service. Special thanks to Sydney for taking care of me all week. It was a team effort and I am beyond proud to have this caliber of establishment in my hometown. Thank you Carlos and all of you at Ocho Dos Dos for creating a beautiful experience - it takes a village. Hope to be back around...
