It was late September, the leaves surrounding lumber inn were turning orange like the Cholula sauce at every table. I remember the hunger clearly - ravenous; debilitating. The type hunger only a perfectly cooked Denver omelette with melted pepper jack cheese and crispy buttery wheat toast could satisfy.
While walking into this inn, you a greeted by a cacophony of sounds ranging from the eggs being flipped and your local suburbanite family arguing over whom was the worst child in mass that day. The host will take you to your seat, past the bathrooms, to the loveliest spot this side of the Mississippi. The coffee is hot as global warming and the water is as cold as the glaciers that are melting. Cool, clear water; I imagine how the children in Flint yearn for a taste of the liquid of life.
The comfy upholstered chairs greet your bottom as you settle down to feast on a heavenly course. The server comes to great you, always with a smile on their face; they are the epitome of service, the definition of accommodation and friendliness.
I was an agnostic before I walked into this paradigm of perfection, but after ordering the Island Delight I think I can confirm that there is in fact a higher power and it bestows its benevalence in the form of pineapple and yogurt.
The final moments at this national treasure are feeling like Nicolas Cage at the end of the Movie Knowing. Just screaming into oblivion while your world ends because you just joined harambe in Nirvana. If you have the chance, come enjoy the lovely service before we all end up in the...
Read moreUsually we have a great time here, which is why we keep coming back for more and more. Our most recent visit, however, is the reason I reduced my 5 star review to a 2 star review. Our server, Erika, did a terrible job. She rushed us to order, asking us what we wanted to drink before we even sat down. I didn't have time to even consider my options, but was already feeling pressured and rushed. She never smiled and had a consistent attitude. When it came to our meal, she was quick to take our order and rush away. The most unfortunate part about this experience, is that every other table in our section had a server named Katie, who was doing absolutely phenomenal! She was kind, always had a smile, read back orders to confirm, and even checked in on our table when our waitress deserted us. The only check up we got from Erika was to drop off our bill. We were approaching the half way point of eating our meals when she left the bill. Never offered a refill on our drinks, never offered desert, but instead once again rushed us out. I am very disappointed in Erikas performance, however this will not prevent us from returning. Just have our fingers crossed that our next few visits can help persuade me to bring my rating from 2 stars back to 5.
Thank you Katie for an excellent job! You are the sole reason we are willing to give Lumber Inn...
Read moreI heard this place was supposed to be good, so I decided try it for breakfast. I ordered crab cakes benedict, one of the priciest breakfast items on the menu. When my meal arrived, I wondered why I couldn’t taste the crab. Upon dissecting the “crab cakes,” I found IMITATION CRAB MEAT! I asked the server if the crab cakes were real or imitation crab meat. He said he was pretty sure it was real, but he’d check. The chef verified that there was indeed imitation crab meat in the cakes. I told him that the menu did not say imitation, and the price was certainly not cheap, and that this was not acceptable. He said he would “provide feedback to the owner.” I wonder if they would accept payment with imitation money? So I have two problems with this: first, no chef worth his salt would ever make crab cakes benedict with imitation crab meat to begin with, and second, it’s completely fraudulent of the owner to put such a thing on the menu at a premium price and then cheat the customer by not delivering what was stated on the menu. Having a poorly executed meal at a restaurant can be corrected with training, but there is no cure for dishonest owners. I will not be back and I would encourage others not to patronize this...
