I came here with a friend yesterday and I have a lot to cover ! I absolutely LOVE sushi and sashmi. This place had amazing sashmi and sushi. The sashmi was perfectly cut, the sushi rice was fresh and cooked to perfection and the selection you have to choose from is large. Every dish was perfectly plated and absolutely amazing to look at. The first service I received was from a young woman, and she was trying to help me, but she couldn’t understand me fully. She told me English wasn’t her first language which was perfectly fine so she got someone else. The second set of service I received was from a young man and he was amazing. I got called beautiful twice, so my ego was through the roof!!! His service was great. Now you may be asking yourself “why 4 stars?” I ordered three pieces of tempera and 10 sashimi as my first food to be brought to me. The tempera was brought almost right away, but it was cold. I didn’t wanna complain because I hate sending food back so I ate it anyways, but it wasn’t great. So when I ordered another set of tempera, I had to tell them to make sure that it was warm as the first set was cold. When I received it, I could tell that it was an old order that was laying out re-dipped and pulled out of the hot oil. It almost makes me think that the tempera is not made fresh and comes prepackaged. If that’s the case, it might’ve just been stuck in the microwave but either way you could tell it was not fresh, but at least it was warm. I got the green tea ice cream and it was some of the worst green tea ice cream I’ve ever had. I don’t think it had any sugar in it at all which for some people is great, but for me, it was a no. I have had green tea ice cream many many places and I’ve never had one taste this bad. I had to shovel it down as you receive a charge if you have any wasted food. Which is another reason why they got four stars.I understand if people are wasting large amounts of food that they should be charged, but due to this being boldly put on the menu I took photos of any small amount of food that I sent back even if it was the tail of my shrimp tempura which is not edible. I also want you to keep in mind that they beautifully plated everything so I was afraid I would be charged for their decorations. When you’re afraid that you’re gonna be charged for things you didn’t ask for such as clear noodles that are decorations it kinda kills the mood. Luckily, I wasn’t charged so now if I went back there, I wouldn’t be afraid of that, but it was a concern based on the menu. Another issue I came across was all people at the table have to be either off the menu or all you can eat. I get that, but I think it’s kind of a stupid rule especially if you have a child with you knowing they won’t eat much. With that being said, I don’t think this is a place to bring your children unless they are huge eaters. They also charge children as adults if they are over a certain height. This brings me to my next and final point the cost. I absolutely think that this place knows they’re worth and I think they are worth it depending on your budget. The service was good, the sashimi and sushi was good again the tempera was not and the ice cream was not. I understand that this is a small business so I’m happy to pay the price but based on a full review, I wanted to mention that another place with the same business model and same distance from my house is $10 cheaper per person. The cost here for AYCE is $37. I will say if these places were next to each other and I was just gonna go out with my family I would go to the other place. If you want to take a family member out for an anniversary or a big life event than this place is the place to go because the plating, the setting and the service is very fancy. Again, if you are just there for the buffet aspect and especially if you have kids I would go elsewhere. I know they are new and still are going to grow over time. I look forward to coming here later...
Read moreUmiya has potential. We tried it tonight. The food and service was overall good. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere. However, competition from other sushi places is significant and I think they need to up their game a bit to compete.
The hand rolls my party ordered were on par with close competitors at the same price point. Good there...but be consistent with the little things like ginger. One person in my party basically had almost none, and we sushi lovers enjoy that part as mych as the rolls themselves!
I had a kamikaze roll. It tasted very good, but for double the price of a hand roll, it was just the same diameter roll and contents of what looked to be salmon or tuna and avocado with 2 extra pieces and the sauce. Go to Sakura and the roll would be much larger and fancier with extra fish wrapped on the outside for the price.
Hibachi chicken: The fried rice was basically just browned rice. Nothing else in it and could use a bump in the flavor department. The chicken was decent, not memorable. Portion size was good.
You were out of Pepsi on a Friday at 4:30. I get that you're new, but these little things matter.
As I said earlier, this place has potential. I hope they are successful...but please pay attention to the competition and offer a comparable product. You're THIS close to being another solid...
Read moreWe had a great dinner the first time and even though felt the price was a bit high for AYCE, we went again a week later since restaurants are pretty limited on the west side. Unfortunately, the food quality was inconsistent. We ordered the white tuna sashimi, which we loved the first time, but this 2nd time they brought us slices of cooked fish. When I asked the server why this was cooked when we aked for sashimi, she insisted that white tuna is always cooked. The 2nd time we also felt like we were rushed to eat with server constantly lingering around. I felt there was a bit of a language barrier that probably could give us better insights into some of the...
