Garrett's Place — Restaurant in Denton Township

Husband and 4 kids came here for dinner. We realize not many places have loads of seating for larger parties and figured we might have to wait, but when we got there and saw they had 2 people seated at a table for 7 was a bit ridiculous. So we had to wait for them to finish their meal. We got seated and manager/owner took our drink orders and then our waitress took over when it was time to order. We got two sides of mozzarella sticks (only 4 per order) as an appetizer. They were pretty under cooked. No cheese pull and the cheese came out in a solid block with the first bite. Eek. I ordered a club wrap with curly fries, very good. My oldest got a bacon cheeseburger, he said it was very good. 2 kids got the sliders kids meal (comes with applesauce and fries) and they liked them. Other kid got chicken tender kids meal, liked that. My husband got the pork chop dinner and was incredibly disappointed. He said it was NOT pork chops but rather a ham steak. He questioned it with the server and she said it smoked pork chop. He didn’t like it unfortunately. When we got our bill, it wasn’t right, they did fix it. So what did we know? We've never been to Houghton Lake, MI and didn't plan to be here. But we had an RV issue and ended up discovering stellar Travel Land RV and Wilson's Automotive who saved our whole travel season. Meanwhile, wind warnings on the Mackinac Bridge stranded us another day and we had to eat. And we discovered another hidden gem of Mid-Michigan! Garrett's Place was so good for lunch, we returned for dinner!!! I had a chef's salad for lunch that could have fed a soccer team and was simply outstanding while my husband found his favorite BLT and didn't have to tell them NOT to butter the sandwich or take off the fried egg or cheese - they KNEW how to make a real, live BLT!! So much food for lunch, turned our dinner into a kind of second lunch. I had egg salad on toasted sourdough bread and chips while hubby had the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes, brown gravy and coleslaw. We brought home a cinnamon roll and a slide of banana cream pie for dessert. DELICIOUS!!! Cold was cold and hot was hot and all was fresh. So it's been over a year that me and my fiancée stopped at Garrett's it was our first time going and boy was the breakfast so good especially the bacon it was nice and crispy cooked perfectly the saltiness made it delicious. We left Michigan with eating Garrett's only once so sad :( Well this year we drove 1515 miles up from Florida for that bacon. My fiancée was nervous that it wasn't going to be the same since we visited last. But once we walked in through the door got welcomed by our server it was time to order again. I got the super eaters with bacon of course my fiancée got blueberry pancakes and eggs. Once we got our food and we both made eye contact. I grabbed my first piece of bacon and took a bite and I knew it was totally worth it. All the miles and the time was soooooooooooooooooo..... worth it. It was exactly like the first time. That bacon is soooooo good and yummy and delicious. We've gone 3 times since we been up here and we've had the waffles with strawberries and the Garrett's omelet smothered in sausage gravy so tasty.
