A penny for your service...
Hostess, thank you for seating me promptly and the older gentlemen (not my waiter) who brought me my meal; these were the 2 positive aspects of my experience.
After I was seated, my attempts to get staff members’ attention were unsuccessful. I waited as other customers who were seated after me, receive service while some staff members stood around in the doorway of kitchen and reception area chatting with each other.
My first introduction to my “waiter” was when I finally got his attention as he was about to pass by me again. (By this time 4 waiters passed me without acknowledging that I was trying to get there attention.) Before I could explain why I was in desperate need of water (literally just had an asthma attack from running from gate B15 to B54 needless to say I missed my connection...sorry I digress), he interrupted me and became defensive and stated that “You looked worked up.”
I stated that I had been trying to get someone’s attention and he was like well “I was helping the other table (a group of hardworking men... I promise this, too, is relevant).” Then, he stated “You look like you’re ready to order.”
So in a matter of moments, we weren’t off to a good start. He didn’t introduce himself, he insulted me with his sarcastic tone/remarks and his interactions with male customers versus single female customers were night and day.
When he brought my water he did so in a sarcastic way. He intentionally scurried across the restaurant to bring my water and placed it down in front of me as if to say “may I get you anything else your highness?” It was extremely condescending.
I continued to watch his interactions with others, in particular, that group of hardworking men. And then that’s when I heard him say “I am not like a squirrly girl [insert chuckles from the hardworking men folk].”
So thank you, sir, for bringing me water, taking my order, and topping off my cup 3x. It was worth a penny (I paid way too much for a basic, dry burger and fries and receive mediocre at best service; the sauces were savory and pretty good though).
I hope this is a teachable moment for the team at this establishment. I work in customer service too, and I see people while they’re at their worst. So, I can only imagine dealing with anxious, irritable, caffeinated airline passengers day in and day out. Doubtful I will dine there again especially with Smashburger coming to the airport and other upcoming restaurants...
Read moreMy husband and I were returning from our honeymoon and had a stop over in Denver. We saw this place and he loved the way it looked and immediately wanted to stop in and eat and get a few drinks before we went on our way.
We were incredibly frustrated with the service. My husband is 21 and they refused to serve him alcohol. We are from another state, and his drivers license wasn’t printed in the direction they wanted it, so they would not serve him alcohol, despite him having a valid drivers license and being of age. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and he ordered food and we both ordered non-alcoholic drinks. I’m not big on bar food, so I got some fast food from another spot nearby. My husband was waiting for his food to come out, and I sat next to him with my food and started eating. A manager came over and rudely told me I couldn’t eat my food there. I politely explained that we both ordered drinks and my husband ordered food and we were waiting on it. He essentially told me that he didn’t care and I had to either leave or stop eating.
So they wouldn’t serve my husband a drink, then after we ordered food and non-alcoholic drinks, I was asked to leave. They expected me to go sit alone somewhere while my husband waited for his food at the bar, on our way home from our honeymoon. Charming place.
My husband decided that was it and we were about to cancel the order and leave when his food came out, so he took it elsewhere so I could actually eat my meal too. They gave us next to no grace with the situation, despite the fact that we had both paid for drinks and he paid for food. Absolutely ridiculous. Their saving grace was that the waitress was nice and it wasn’t her fault that the manager was a total piece of trash and the bar rules were ridiculous.
I understand not wanting outside food or drink in a bar or restaurant, but this is in an airport where we are essentially in a food court, with some tables and a bar off to the side set up for Aviators. There are outside food items and drinks everywhere, and the place wasn’t...
Read moreI travel through DIA for business about 1-2 times per week. I haven't traveled with my entire family for almost 2 years. We decided to stop in here because I thought I'd try something new. Big mistake. My 9 year old daughter wanted a smoothie from Jamba Juice and while they ordered I got a table. Well they also got a fruit bowl. The fruit bowl is essentially a smoothie that hasn't been pureed yet. All 5 of us went into Aviators to have lunch. My son and daughter, 6 and 9, ordered drinks. My daughter, who had the fruit bowl, ordered fries right away. My wife and I both ordered a drink. We were looking at the menu and were each going to order a meal. My 9 y/o daughter wanted her fruit basket. While I recognize at restaurants out on the street that the idea of bringing in outside food is prohibited, we're in an airport. Essentially a food court setting. We all, including my daughter, were ordering food from them. The waitress told my daughter she had to go to a table outside the restaurant to eat her food. While the rest of us sat in the restaurant. I told her I was disappointed with what was happening. She didn't care one bit. She made my daughter feel terrible on a trip for us to go see extended family in Chicago. At that point I closed our tab instead of ordering. She asked if we wanted to see the manager. I'm sure that would have been just as pathetic, possibly more. As a fairy seasoned traveler, I'll make it a point to never visit, or recommend, this to anyone traveling through DIA. Despicable treatment to my family, and especially my very kind 9 year old daughter.
Nothing has changed, just...
