Just had my first visit to Briar Patch, and am excited to return with friends and family. Easily got a table for brunch on Saturday - though I am sure this will change soon given my experience. The staff were amazing, especially Kelli, who took such great care to bring water and ice for my pup as we were seated on their dog friendly patio (well, half of the patio-they seat patrons with dogs on one side which seems reasonable for consideration of fellow guests).
The menu was varied, with standards with their own twist. I went "safe" with the avocado toast, with two eggs fried to order (they offer as sunny eggs but I modified for OM - one egg was perfect, the other went a little OOM but still enjoyable). The twist was a drizzle of honey, which I had forgotten about until my first bite, and then was delightfully surprised at how well it worked!). Avocado was mashed, which I find so much easier to eat. I need to know where they are getting their tomatoes (I hope a farmer's market) because the tomato was summer ripe and just perfection. On the side was a perfect portion of their "tots" and they were all perfectly crispy outer layer contrasted by pillow soft in the middle. The only thing I could have wanted more of from this dish were the microgreens. Still, ever forkful was one delicious bite after another. The sign their chef and cooks really know what they're doing is that the dishes and drinks have the foundation of high quality ingredients and proper seasoning, this food is not bland! Just balanced, like their signature Thyme after Thyme cocktail which was the perfect spritzer for brunch. Even the muddle strawberries were ripe and juicy and the drink perfectly chilled with those fun little ice cubes. Another touch that shows they pay attention to details here.
I perused the dinner and happy hour menus to consider future dining options, and from the wide selection of mocktails, really nice array of wines, and of course, the Briar Patch craft beers from @briarcommonbrewery. Cannot wait to check out happy hour here!
I hope my fellow Congress Park neighbors and beyond will come out and droves to support this place because we so needed another "casually elevated", high quality option to walk to and savor. Briar Patch has the potential to have staying power and now I need to go check out their sister operation, Briar Common Eatery & Brewery at Jefferson Commons!
Thanks again to Kelli - we appreciate you checking in on us at just the right moments and chatting through the menu options!
p.s. note - they can take tap to pay with your phone, but you have to go to the server station...
Read moreThis may be the worst dining experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant and I don’t say that lightly.
The service was horrible. We sat down, it took 15-20 minutes for them to get an iced tea and a diet coke together. They said it was delayed because they were brewing it…? The appetizer was slow coming out too. The waiter seemed so disconnected from the table, we asked for a refill for Diet Coke he literally walked right past us with it and came back around with it and was like “sorry I forgot where I was going”. They also left the check on the table for 15-20 mins to where I contemplated just leaving.
I ordered the crispy broccoli for an appetizer, it came and it looked like it was freeze dried, it was not appetizing at all. It had some sort of sauce on the bottom which did not much for it.
My date got the 3 bean soup and it literally tasted like black beans was put into a Bowl of ketchup and it tasted like that too. I tasted it and it was shocking how bad it was.
I got the mushroom risotto with chicken which was actually decent.
I’m not sure if this was just an off night, but I will not be returning. The whole experience was comically bad. We went to the sienna wine bar after and it...
Read moreRevised! Not Dog Friendly. Now, after my (and other reviews), Dog friendly but with ordering stipulations.🙄 See the owners response below. (Original Review). So I understand that this restaurant has just opened, experiencing some growing pains, which is normal, but I was basically refused to have breakfast on The patio because I had a dog with me. Apparently, according to the health department, if your doors are open, then you can’t have dogs on the patio. I have lived in Congress Park a number of years and have patronized the other restaurants in this spot, always welcomed with my dog, and water, doors closed your doors opened or closed. I didn’t suggest it, but maybe if they close their doors, then they could’ve served us? I did reiterate to them that there’s a lot of dogs in Congress Park and people who will wander in like I have in the past with their dogs and want to dine. I will give them another chance maybe, if they change their rule. So this is why they only got two stars. But they will alienate a lot of people in the summer if they don’t accommodate the many dog owners, Because the surrounding...
