It sucks to have to write this, because their food is honestly great - one of our favorite Mexican restaurants by far. But tonight, after dinner, we felt ripped off.
It was our 2nd time dining in and each time, instead of them bringing you a bill, they tell you to go up to the register and pay there. Then, your server just tells you a total and you hand them your card. They don’t actually show you a bill. The 1st time we dined in, they did this and I didn’t think much of it, the bill kind of made sense, but it did seem like the pricing was off by about $10. This time though, when I went to go pay, same thing happened, the server just said $78 even and in my head I thought it was strange, since we had things that equaled about $65. I thought - “wow, taxes must be super high.”
As I was signing to leave a tip, I realized that I should see the actual bill, so I asked for that and the server gave me a copy of the same receipt I was signing, not the itemized one. I told her to please give me an itemized bill and she seemed to be a bit taken back and flustered, but she finally gave it to me after I had given her my signed copy with a 20% tip. Turns out, my total was not even the $78 she originally said. The totals on both the itemized bill and the one I signed were off. The only reason why my total was close to the $78 was because they had already added a 10% tip to the check, something that we were not made aware of.
So the actual total that I signed with an added 20% tip didn’t even match the total on the real bill. What was a $65 meal - $70 with tax - turned into a $94 meal because I tipped over 30% without knowing. Of course, if I would’ve seen before signing anything that they had already included 10% on the check, I would have just added a bit more. But, I feel like this is a very common practice for them and that’s really sad. You’re essentially ripping off a customer by not showing them a bill and not being honest. The receipts don’t match at all in total, name of business, time, ticket number or even server name. I’m sure the DBA as the other business name, but the rest is just shady.
Love the food and might just get take out in the future instead. But also, teaching lesson for me to always ask for the check/bill before just handing my card...
Read moreWe got takeout from here a few times over the last few months. Usually a chaotic process, they’ve always been very busy, but they got our orders mostly right. Once when we called it in there was a miscommunication, but that kind of thing happens sometimes. We bought breakfast burritos once, other times lunch/dinner. I really liked the hand held breakfast burritos, and the salsas with them were very flavorful and went well. I really enjoy the gorditas I’ve had here, though the al pastor meat was just ok, kind of bland in my opinion. I probably would try a different protein next time. My friend had chicken enchiladas and said the chicken was very flavorful and good. My partner had chicken flautas and enjoyed them as well. Parking lot can be a nightmare. A lot of food is being cooked outside, so perhaps not a place for...
