I have had many excellent experiences in this restaurant - and one EXTREMELY BAD experience in this restaurant. My son and I lived in Barnum for 15 years, and occasionally ate here. Then the Covid lockdown happened. During lockdown we ordered carry out two, or three times a week to be supportive of them as a local restaurant struggling to stay in business. I always dealt with the same man when ordering - and when picking up my food - which they brought to my car. This man was extremely kind, respectful, and grateful to us for supporting his business during the pandemic. After lockdown was over - I ordered a carryout order on the telephone. The woman who took my order on the phone had a very thick accent that indicated to me that English may not be her Primary language. When I arrived at the restaurant to pay for and pick up my carry out order - I was surprised to find out that the woman had misunderstood my food order. The woman had ordered me two hamburger meals to go - when I had only ordered one hamburger meal. A simple miscommunication which was not big deal - until the owner got involved. He outright - bold faced lied to me - by stating to me - that he was the person who had talked to me on the telephone and had took my food order. He told me I had ordered two hamburger meals. I was shocked! The man was literally gaslighting me. I kid you not. I was NOT confused - and absolutely knew I had spoken to an adult woman who took my order. He was SO upset and angry - that he pulled his Covid mask down from his mouth - and was raising his voice with me. I told him to put his mask over his mouth and nose as masks were a health mandate, and he complied with my request. He temporarily walked away from the cash register - and an older Hispanic woman walked up to me and apologized to me. The woman stated to me that it was her that I had spoken to on the telephone - and she had taken my food order. She apologized for making a mistake with me order. It was then that I asked her - who was the man that was being inappropriate with me. The woman quietly stated to me that he was one of the owners of the restaurant - and had a reputation for being difficult to work with. This absolutely blew my mind. It was a simple customer service miscommunication - and this man was blowing the situation WAY out of proportion. When he returned to the cash register he was still irritable and disrespectful. So I candidly told him that I had lost my appetite due to the unnecessary conflict with him - and that I no longer wanted to purchase any food from the restaurant at that time. I walked out and didn't go back there for a couple years. I researched their Google Reviews online and realized that there was a little history of negative reviews involving their management team. I have been in this restaurant two or three times in the last three months, and the food was consistently good as always. My server has been # 000002 per my receipt. She is an excellent waitress, very efficient and friendly. I guess my bottom line is - in life there are ALWAYS going to be "bad apples" when you are dealing with people. When those people have money - and are in positions of power and authority (like the owner in my review) they can create situations that are difficult to deal with. My hope is that the other owners - and Management Team members of Looking Good Restaurant - don't take for granted the customer loyalty that their patrons have consistently given them. What was most upsetting to me - was that I had been supportive of their business financially during the lockdown - then I was treated like sh*t by some man I had never seen before - ever. I sure as hell wish I had asked the woman who apologized to me - what this man's name was. It is unfortunate that he will probably never be held accountable for his behavior because I don't know who he was. Maybe his reputation will proceed him - and his coworkers will be able to figure out who he is based on their own...
Read moreBad value as it is overpriced with small portions. Yana’s down the street or even Denny’s is a better diner type restaurant as the food quality and quantity is not what the price would represent. The service is always excellent, but it does not make up for the overpriced bad food.
No options other than french fries with the kids meals? Come on really? What is this 1985? Here Junior, get a head-start on your heart disease. I told the waitress my kids did not want the french fries and I asked if they could have anything instead. I suggested any kind of vegetables or anything other than french fries, and she said “sorry there’s really nothing else” and then five seconds later she said, “do you want onion rings? I assumed that meant the onion rings were an equal option for the french fries. Now I’m confused. Lol. My son said sure, great.
My sons eyes lit up when she mentioned onion rings, and he said sure. My daughter was offered fruit as well and I thought, wow, this is great! At first she said there’s no substitute for french fries, and now she’s offering her fruit. That’s great. When I get the bill, the fruit was five dollars for a small bowl of strawberries and bananas. They charged a dollar extra for three, literally three small onion rings. Are you serious?
—-She never told me there was an extra charge for the fruit OR the onion rings that she suggested! Isn’t that illegal? Or at least highly unethical?—
Talk about nickel and diming somebody to death. That same bowl of fruit at many other diners is like $3. Denny’s at least has options other than french fries for the kids meals so you don’t have to give them atherosclerosis.
-The meat patties on the kids hamburgers were completely misshapen. They looked like ovals with chunks missing out of the middle. I’m thinking maybe it was Play-Doh and not really ground beef. My vegetable omelette was average in taste, but small in size with maybe 2 1/2 or three small eggs. It was $15.99! Extremely over priced. At many other breakfast places, a three egg omelette is closer to the $10-$13 range.
-The coffee tasted completely bland, and, like the coffee pot had not been cleaned. A smaller sized breakfast for me and my 9 year old kids was $49!, and my son was still hungry!
I’ve been to some over priced restaurants recently, but there’s still a lot of restaurants out there that present a good value. The Lookin Good Lounge is ridiculously over priced for what you get in the quality of food. There are so many other better value diners within a short drive. I always ask myself the same question, how is this place is still here?
Needless to say, I will never return.
We will go to Yanna’s Cafe, Westwood Inn, Swifts, Denny’s any of the other close by diner style restaurants that present a much...
Read moreThis restaurant has been our “go to” restaurant for over 20 yrs, sadly cannot say that anymore. It must be under different ownership maybe?!? First time we received terrible service with horrible tasting food- thought for sure was a fluke, but subsequent visits including tonight- we kept trying because the restaurant- atmosphere, has meant so much to us. Tonight we went at 730 not realizing they closed at 8pm, have never had to go that late before, didn’t pay attention… I guess but all they had to do was tell us , We would have just ordered burgers to go— or sandwich—-was rough day and I have to leave town again in am after only a couple of days at home. Waitress asked if we needed a few min to look at minute- we said yes please- she sighed loudly, and proceeded to sit down in chair at table next to ours, facing us, and stared- seriously?!? Breakfast has always been perfect- not anymore— bacon was nearly burnt and so greasy limp- as we’re the potatoes….as if left over from breakfast and cook thought throwing them on some grease would warm them up- just made both too greasy to eat. Orange juice- not even cool, tasted sour. Biscuits and gravy……”Sausage gravy” had zero sausage, biscuits were hard and left whole, not even split, barely enough gravy to cover tops, not even close to enough for 2 opened biscuits. Just breaks my heart - truly it does. The owners and their son were awesome and made sure to come by and visit with patrons, letting each know they appreciated their business. The son was alway there in the evenings- have not seen any of them last 4 visits- which is why I wonder if they sold the restaurant or possibly other issues have kept them from being there……. I know they worked so hard for a great number of years the make that a great place, in relatively short amount of time- it’s been driven...
