This is an authentic Asian market, so be prepared for a new experience if you're not used to shopping in places like this. It's definately NOT King Soopers! They have great prices on spices, that are fresh and wonderful; and just about every noodle you've ever heard of (along with about a 1000 you probably never knew existed). In the fresh sections, you'll find both exotic and everyday veggies, fruits. Along with fresh-fresh fish, live frogs, quail eggs and way too much to mention. They lose a star for having a slightly funky smell when you first walk in, and for making me hunt a bit for things - although I'll admit, these might be my problems and not theirs as they do have a great seafood section (which explains the smell) and there is an order to the isles (that I'm sure I'll eventually figure out). Love that I can get unusual and yummy mushrooms, along with some atypical kitchen and household supplies. (If you EVER use chopsticks you have to check our their stainless steel sets! Dishwasher safe, unbreakable, and super inexpensive!) They also have a great selection of snack foods, that tend to be a little healthier and individually packaged so there's far less waste when you're feeding the kids and you can feel a little better about giving them something they like, with less sugar, more fruit and a smaller serving size than standard American fare. I pop in Viet Hoa about once a month, fill up on snacks and generally grab something new to try for dinner. They never fail to have something new for my family to try and it's always a...
Read moreI LOVE this store! I went there for the first time today looking for some ingredients that I can't find at "normal" grocery stores. I was blown away by the variety and choice of noodles, chili-based products and basically anything for Asian cooking. I am trying to learn how to cook some of the fantastic foods I had traveling in Asia and of course need many ingredients that are unusual here in the US. I had been buying online, but that's expensive and generally means i need to buy pretty large amounts since so many of these ingredients only cost a few dollars per jar/bag. At Viet Hoa I can buy just one of the jars/bags! They also have a large selection of frozen and fresh foods that are nearly impossible to find anywhere else because they considered "nasty". Things like chicken feet, bags of pork fat, many of the organs - things that are normally not used in western cooking but are so integral to other recipes. I haven't checked out fresh vegetable selection yet - but I expect I will find many of those veggies that I have to find substitutes for now. I am just amazed at their selection and plan to regularly visit it to try out new recipes. I am just really excited to...
Read moreHaving been to many Asian supermarket in town, including Great Wall, HMart, Park Hill, Tri-Ocean, Little Saigon, New Saigon, Ben Thanh, M-Mart, but never been to Viet Hoa in Lakewood due to its location. Happened to be in the neighborhood recently and was quite amazed of this local gem. Viet Hoa has been a local staple. Used to be at Wadsworth and Alameda before relocating to its current location at Sheridan and Alameda. Although it is smaller than Great Wall and HMart, but it is bigger than most other Vietnamese supermarkets. It does not carry as many brands as its bigger rivals, but it probably has more than enough of what most people need. The impression is the vegetables, seafood and meats look fresher here, not like something just out of a freezer. The shelves are neatly stocked (it is not an exaggeration, they probably spent time lining everything up with labels facing front), which make shopping much easier. I would not say it is worthy of the trip here if you live south or north, but it probably can satisfy your Asian grocery needs so you don't need to drive all the way to other Asian...
