I'm a little disappointed... This used to be my absolute favorite place for Mexican food. Cheap and unbelievably delicious. The four home-made salsas were THE best. And it was charming/slightly inconvenient that they didn't have a liquor license (but the food was SO good, you couldn't care too much).
Now, they have a license and a mini bar area (which I saw last time I was back in town)--yea! Today, though, I was excited to hear they have a patio - - go Los Carboncitos!! And it's a nice sized, well designed patio.
But have to say, service and food have slipped. Food took longer than ever before, and it wasn't busy. Then, everything was luke warm. And she didn't refill chips or drinks until after the food was delivered (late). Finally, on taste, it was ok. Not bad, but not freaking delicious like it used to be. And we've been living in a country where there's no good Mexican, so our bar has significantly lowered since we were last here. Sad times. It's like the cost of being a real food joint has meant the food is now meh like other Mexican spots on Federal. Bummer - - I'll take my hole in the wall, no liquor licence or patio and fantastic, authentic...
Read moreHere is a review that captures the key points you mentioned:
"I am very disappointed with my recent experience at this restaurant. I ordered a taco plate with steak and a chile relleno burrito. I've been a regular customer and have never had issues with the food or service before, but this visit was a complete letdown.
The chile relleno was not even inside the burrito, despite me paying for the extra filling. The burrito also was not properly smothered as I had requested. By the time I realized the issues, I had already driven home, so I ended up going hungry.
To make matters worse, this was supposed to be a nice meal to help my girlfriend and I unwind after a stressful week. Instead, we were let down by the poor quality of the food and the lack of attention to our order.
Needless to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant. The combination of the long drive, unsatisfactory meal, and general disappointment has soured us on this establishment. I expected much better based on my past experiences, but this visit fell far short of the standard. I cannot recommend this restaurant after such a poor showing on...
Read moreCame here last week for the first time and will definitely be returning. I am not sure what happened to the people with the negative reviews, but I had a wildly positive experience. Got there around 6:30 on a Friday and the place was nearly empty (It was also easy finding parking). We were seated right away and got free chips and salsa (the second basket of chips does cost though). We ordered quickly, and our food came out super fast. I ordering a gordita after our first order, and that came out very quickly too. Everyone was super friendly and it was really great service.
Even if it had been awful service, I probably would've have come back because their tacos are SO good and SO cheap (most are two dollars and a few are 2.50). I got a chicken, tongue, and steak taco, and they were all absolutely delicious. They are really simple, traditional tacos (just with lime, cilantro, and onion), and just so good. The gordita I got was good, but nothing compared to the tacos!
I would highly recommend anyone to come here for tacos. The staff was all so friendly and it just seems like a really great...
