So I had seen a lot of reviews and videos on line hyping this place up like none other. The videos and reviews were saying things like “extremely affordable” or “super relaxing vibe” or “amazing food and variety”.
1st: if your idea of “affordable” is over 60 bucks for two dishes, a basket of fries & two canned drinks you are delusional with a slice of out of touch with no real concept of what affordable means. I get inflation in a a thing right now but what in the heck are you guys using in the food … GOLD FLAKES !??
2nd: the vibe was extremely off putting and just obnoxious with nothing but trust fund clicky jerks who have their noses in the air. Mixed with the uncomfortable client bass the music was blasting obnoxiously loud where one can’t even hear their partner across the table.
“bUt tHeRe iS A sIgN oN tHe wAlL tHaT sAyS WE GET CRAZY AND IF YOU NEED US TO TURN IT DOWN JUST SAY SO sO iF tHaT BoThErEd yOu tHeN tHaTs oN yOu”
Yeah and I’ll be sure to tell someone who is in the middle of getting robbed to tell their assailant to not do that because it’s not cool. Seeing your rules on the wall was the dumbest thing I saw in the entire establishment. Felt like walking into a daycare facility as a child and the teacher was introducing me to the rules. If one goes into a restaurant you want to be able to enjoy yourself while also being able to hear yourself think. This wasn’t just me it was also my GF & three other people behind us that just left. If I wanted to go to a damn rave ID GO TO A RAVE OR CLUB.
3rd: So the food was the part that I was genuinely excited for … that is if you could understand and navigate the extremely awful menu Design and names of the food items. It’s honestly extremely migraine inducing when you try to be “HIP” and “Cool” with these mumbo-jumbo names for items. PLEASE Just call it what it is and not add all the stupid confusing names it’s just over doing it and completely over the top in a bad way. Reading the menu felt as though the owners were trying to be fresh or innovative while only adding another thing to what was just killing my vibe entirely. To add to an already exhausting / uncomfortable experience the price was extremely overpriced for what we got. Massively let down with a basic a** greasy mess of a Berger that was just soggy, flavorless & waaaaaay too salty. Falafel that was mid and just kinda looked thrown together although the fresh veggies was a nice look / touch. The only OK thing was the basket of fries but the basket was small as all heck. To top it off the cans of gatorade were barely cold and I even went over to switch them and those were barely cold too … SMH (FIX YOUR COOLER OR SOMETHING).
4th: I get working in the food industry sucks and sometimes the service industry can be rough (trust me I know from experience). But goodness the employees were extremely off putting and had the same energy as the clients and that added even more to the uncomfortable feeling I had in this “HIP” establishment 🙄. The only helpful employee was a gentleman who was running food he had an apron and striped pants.
All in all OVER PRICED below mid food you could make better at home, Extremely obnoxious environment with energy that massively was unenjoyable & uncomfortably loud music that took what could be a nice brunch meal time and turned it into a absolutely terrible experience. Extremely let down and felt lied to with the reviews and would not be surprised by a place like this paying for a fake review to just bring in more people to steal money from. If only I could give negative scores you would be a negative 5.
First and definitely last time I’d ever come here again and I’d highly recommend giving your money to other local restaurants in the area,...
Read morePersonally, I would give this place 5 stars! But I'm taking my partner's opinion into consideration in this review.
We stumbled across Bodega on "Denvers top restaurants ' website on our first day in Colorado. Desperate not to fall into a tourist trap and seeking locals favorite spots in the city, we pulled up the Bodega and saw there was a line wrapped around the building. A good sign! The wait was long (about 30 mins in chilly rain) but we were determined that good things would come to those who wait ! What stood out most to me, was the cool atmosphere, laid back staff and vegetarian options! I went in knowing I would get the vegan sasuage biscuit until I saw they had vegan chicken!
Food wise we ordered the new vegan chicken breakfast bagel and "the basic " bacon, egg, cheese and hashbrown on poppy seed bun. Then shared a mixture of fries basket. The vegan chicken breakfast bagel was interesting (This is where the service truly stood out) . Not sure if I'm just not a fan of "authentic " bagels that are super hard and dry, but everything else was amazing except the bagel itself. It was huge and kind of impossible to eat. Out of embarrassment I humbly asked if I could buy a normal poppy seed bun for my breakfast sandwich since I didnt care for the bagel itself. The staff came over with a bun free of charge, and even asked for my feedback on the bagel. They validated my opinion and informed me that those bagels are very different from average bagels, as they are authentic. I love how they didnt shame me, they heard the customer out on their new product and made it right in my case. Once I had the other bun, I tore it up! 🙌
My partner seems to think his sandwich was just "meh" and overpriced. But I would gladly return and reccomend!
PS: just wish there were more seats! that little place is so popular and...
Read moreWe got there early(ish) on a Sunday morning for brunch and enjoyed everything about it! Great food, fun atmosphere, near other neat places if you want to make an afternoon out of it. Shoutout to whoever was sharing their culinary magic on 8/5/23 - I ordered the hustler and it was so good. The banana bread was fantastic too and we loved the mixed fries - it’s perfect for any duo wanting to split an order of fries when one person enjoys sweet potato fries and the other thinks sweet potato fries are an insult to fries everywhere.
Side note - I always feel super bummed for restaurants who are very transparent in what they are and what they offer, but get reviews from people who have unreasonable expectations going in. This is a small restaurant using locally sourced and fresh ingredients to create made-from-scratch sandwiches and their prices accurately reflect that. If you want a $3 breakfast sandwich, go to McDonald’s. And I have nothing against McDonald’s - I enjoy their breakfast biscuits just as much as anyone else who wakes up after a night out and isn’t proud when they log into their bank account to see the damage the next morning - but you can’t expect the quality Bodega offers at McDonald’s prices and then give them a negative review. Also, the brunch rush is busy, so if you expect to show up at 10:30/11 on a Saturday/Sunday and be immediately served/seated, you’ve clearly never brunched before. Last thing - this isn’t a quiet, quaint, peaceful little coffee shop and they don’t claim to be. This is a loud, busy, trendy restaurant/bar with loud music playing and loud conversations happening in a small space. If you’re looking to have quiet/peaceful/private/intimate conversation, don’t pick a place that obviously won’t support that and then leave a negative review over it because...
