Abelardo's Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Des Moines

Oh yeah. This place is fantastic it's on Douglas by Merle Hay Mall but Douglas and you'll see it and the fact that they make the most authentic Mexican food they make authentic churros that I have not found any other place except they also have a restaurant on East 14th and stays open 24 hours and no other restaurant has the Atlantic as Mexico as they do. And who also make authentic churros and they have the cinnamon they have the strawberry the cream of the is great that this is like going to Mexico okay they have fantastic food they have Mexican drinks and the hot sauces or just the bomb Oh my God I mean they've got like six different times. Up and I love them all and the fact that you get how you pin your pepper and celery and carrots to and pack and you can also have some salsa also that is fantastic Lemay at it's the only Mexican restaurant I will go to in Des Moines Iowa there's no other that can beat it so if you love Mexican food I tell you go to this place and don't forget to order authentic churros for your dessert because then you are going to also love the play and the people thank you very much yum yum yum I love...

Abelardo's is the Des Moines-Omaha equivalent of an Alberto's knockoff chain. If you've been to one of these southwest chains (Rancherito's of Utah, Roberto's of San Diego and Las Vegas), you MOSTLY know what to expect. The owner buys up long-abandoned fast food buildings (this particular location is an old Mission-style Taco Bell), gives them a festive paint job, and opens for business. You can get nearly identical roast beef tacos, chicken and pork products.

The surprise here? Unlike most of their counterparts, Abelardo's has ground beef as an option. And it is the BEST ground beef taco meat I've ever had. It's got a taste I can't put my finger on, it's unlike any other, and it's got a bite to it that works perfectly with their available red sauce. And they FILL the taco shells with it. Order three of these and grab a spoon because you're going to have a leftover taco salad from the fallover of lettuce, beef and cheese from the shells. They're the best American-style tacos I know of.

they charged me about a buck more than the price on the menu, then when i called them out on it they refused to make it right. so, they're advertising one price, and hoping customers won't notice when they pay at the window.

EDIT: (April 2019) 10 months later, same scam. i avoided their business for almost a year, they're still serially overcharging people. The food quality has gone down as well.

EDIT: (June 2019) still scamming! they put up paper signs explaining how their POS prices don't match their menu, because their "waiting for new menu graphics" (i work at a sign co, we could have it printed in under an hour) i only stop by here when the wife REALLY wants a burrito on a Sunday, when Maria's is closed. now their paper "excuse" signs are getting faded and old LoL. i'm thinking about talking to an investigative reporter at a TV news station about this scam... these clowns are so cheap, they turned off the hot water to...
