Gerri's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Des Moines

Back in the day, the TIP was To Ensure Promptness. Today, the staff there received a large TAP, To Avoid Prosecution, as there is nothing prompt about the service. We hated to leave without paying for our drinks, and the legal consequences of a dash and dine far exceed overpaying for services not rendered.

It was 2:15 in the afternoon on Sat 10/14. I know this because we went to a hightap table, but there was a sign that said Reserved at 2:30. I looked at my watch to check the time, we then chose another seat. So the crew received a very generous TAP overage payment on the items we actually received and consumed. We left due to not receiving our meal. It had been more than 40 minutes after placing our order and no sign of our meal, a sandwich basket and side of wings. Other patrons that ordered after us not only received their meal, but had finished eating their meal. My boyfriend stopped at the counter to pay our bar tab, but did not pay as she reassured him our meal was on its way out. This was not true, our food was not brought out to our table, so after waiting another 5 plus minutes, not only did we leave, but left an adequate amount of cash on the table to cover our drinks and then some. Went there last night and the wings looked delicious on another persons table. Unfortunately we saw other guests when we walked in never being waited on as we sat at the bar to order food. Looked like one employee was just engaged in talking to a man at the other end of the bar the whole time and the other bartender looked overwhelmed. The other guests walked out and we followed behind shortly after them and never got to taste those wings. Another staff member brought out food and watched us walk out but in her defense, she must of been in kitchen the whole time. We love exploring new places and dives to eat, fortunately we found somewhere else last night after we left that was busy but immediately greeted us and sat us down with beverages in just a few minutes. Unfortunately for the owners, how many others besides us and the table before that walked out wanted to give you our money but never had the chance with the service that wasn’t provided. Called to get an order to go bartender said he was taking a order at a table could i hold on. I said sure. I could hear bartender talking to other custumers he was not taking a order. Sat on phone for over 10 min he never came back to ask about my order. Busy i get that. So i went there lot of people two big party of 6to 8 people each 4 tables of 2 to 4 people 6 people at the bar. They had been open for about 50 min at that time. Not one table had food. Sat down at bar in about 5 min the bartender said he be right with me. took out one togo order and food for a table for two. When he came back to the bar i ask if could get a drink he said he was busy it would be a little bit. Now i have been there for 15min already. With out any service.
