After a long day, we were in the mood for a nice meal and stumbled upon Lina's Mexican, which wasn't far from where we were. We wanted to dine in, so we called ahead, but couldn’t get through. Thankfully, the hours listed online seemed clear enough, so we headed there. However, when we arrived, the doors were locked, forcing us to switch to the drive-through for takeout.
When placing our order, the young lady taking it seemed to have trouble understanding some of our questions. So, I kept it simple and ordered the burrito combo. The combo included rice and beans, and the extra burrito I received was a basic beef burrito. Unfortunately, it lacked much substance—just lettuce, cheese, and ground beef—and the flavors were really disappointing. The burrito was bland, missing key ingredients like sour cream and salsa that could've elevated it. The meat itself was also unseasoned, which left it tasting flat.
I also ordered a lemonade, but was disappointed to discover it was just Minute Maid, not the traditional homemade lemonade you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. All in all, the food was mediocre at best. The rice was tasteless, and the beans were just as bland. On the positive side, the portion sizes were generous.
If Lina's could improve their seasoning and better manage their dine-in hours, I believe it could make a huge difference for the restaurant. I would recommend it only if you’re downtown and need something quick and affordable. But if you’re searching for bold, flavorful Mexican cuisine, this wouldn’t be the place to go, despite the great portion sizes...
Read moreWe ordered from Grub Hub and this has nothing to do with our driver as she was amazing (picture of delivery and all!). our order was so cold it felt like it came off of a buffet table and basic items were missing. We even ordered the 16oz chips and salsa as this does not come with your basic order and it tasted like Ragu or Prego with chopped up jalapenos and cilantro just to make it look like a thick salsa at first. Currently we are reheating our meal and trying to find left over salsa to make what they gave us edible!
I love Mexican restaurants around the Des Moines IA area, but this is one I will never spend a cent at again!!! please do not support this establishment.
P.S Thank you and shout out to Grub Hub for the refund and Lysa as an amazing driver!

Read moreOne star is too much to give this place unfortunately, as we visit in town we chose to give this place a chance. 1st the menu at the drive thru is written in green ( it is really hard to read). We ordered a platter combo [burrito which had asada as a meat of choice, rice beans and the whole set] + chips with guacamole + carnitas platter and a large cup of iced water.
First of all the portion given to us was a lot. (Bit too much) The guacamole tasted old and cold the chips were "soggy" My burrito tasted weird, the refried beans were salty, rice was undercook and tasted like 2 days old food; the sour cream texture looked like it was expired, it smelled bit weird also (I couldn't eat it) The carnitas platter was the same as my platter.
We took 2 bite at the food and had to throw away the rest. No wonder they were compensating with the food portions. No standard at all food wise, it's a shame; we literally threw away $30(which was the cost of all that).
The only positive things that I can point out is that the lady at the window was nice and kind, also the free large cup of iced water was good. This place has a lot of work to do, A lot.
