Fat Chance Belly Dance style tribal dance class in 106 with Dawn Grey - she has danced all her life and is absolutely the BEST instructor. Welcoming, not critical, and her kinesiology knowledge is an important aspect of learning. You are not just copying a step. She can break down a step until it makes sense to me. The building has lots of art and studios to peruse. Dawn's studio can hold many dancers, has huge mirrors and air conditioning. This is a several floor artist collaborative building with scores of individual artist studios. It's a great stop to take a visitor during a tour of Des Moines, or an activity for yourself on an afternoon.

Sometimes there events here. I went to an open house once where many of the artists opened their shops so you could meat the artists and see their studio - and there was music, food...etc in the common areas. But I've also gone during the day when none of the shops are open, but you can still tour all the floors and see much of the art that is exhibited in...

I love going here on first Fridays and talking with all the incredibly talented artists in the building. Coming here is like going to a very large art gallery with a diverse range of art forms represented, some complete and some in progress or evolving. I also love the Shattering Silence mural that envelops the entirety of the exterior facade. Mainframe Studios is making a difference...
