Shelton's Cafe — Restaurant in DeSoto

Shelton’s is located inside what use to be a larger store, my guess would be a grocery store. There are little shopping booths inside and a few other eating places. They have maybe 10 2-person tables in the entry for everyone to use. The restroom was clean. There is an area set up for kids with a few toys and a cloth checker board (I don’t have littles so I didn’t pay too close attention to it). I visited Shelton’s with my aunt when I was on my way through to a doctor’s appointment in Carrollton. There were 2 guys working, they told us it would take about 35 mins for the food to be ready as they had 8 orders in front of ours. I was going to leave because I only had 45 mins before I had to get on the road to make my appointment. The guy told me they’d try to have it sooner so we placed our order. I ended up having to eat on the road and was late to my appointment. 🥴

BUT, the burger was worth it! The patty was big and you could tell it was handmade. The bun was toasted. They used real cheese! It was not a fast food type burger but one you’d make yourself with all the good stuff and love! I had a hard time choosing what to order as everything looked delicious (they had pictures and descriptions!). I would definitely stop there again but ensure I had more time to wait. If you have time to wait, definitely give them a try! We need more real food places like this one and I love all the little entrepreneurs that make up the shopping...

I sure wish I could give a 5, but my honest opinion would not allow me to. 1st of all I'm not from Desoto so I could not find the location because there's no outside signage. If it wasn't for a gentleman walking the parking lot I stopped him and he informed me that it was inside. Once I got inside I saw the restaurant, I looked over the menu and placed my order at 12:15. I was the only person at the counter at this time placing an order, I was told that I would get a text when my food was ready. I walked around, sat down went to other businesses and walked around went to the counter not ready. Ask several people everyone said the food is good and they cook it fresh. Ok I understood. People started coming in going to the counter picking up food I guess from calling in. By this time I went back to the counter still not ready, other people coming in picking up food. Ok it was 1:15 still not ready. I was really agitated by this time. If you are going to accept call in orders and cook them before you cook the food for the people ordering at the counter the right thing to do is allow your customers at the counter to decide if they want to wait an hour and 5 minutes. The food was tasty but I doubt it if I return, if I do I will most likely try the other...

Randomly found this place last minute while visiting my mother searching nearby table service lunch spots. I didn’t know anything about this joint food and shopping venue, so I was a little skeptical but the reviews were to consistent not to try…

How grateful I am Shelton’s was the choice! Food was absolutely exquisite!!! Shelton was a one man band yet he had the flavor and creativity in his food of 10 chefs cooking. My Mother and Aunt are suuuuuuuper particular with food so I was a little nervous. There batting average for returning food is .811. They absolutely loved it.

If I had travelled all the way from Frisco to DeSoto just to experience Shelton’s it would’ve been worth it! We had the Chimmichuri Steak and Salmon bowls, pancakes, burger and fries, and the fruit drinks. All absolutely delicious! He was efficient and accommodating handling multiple orders at one time. While there was a small wait, we were blown away how quickly he was able to get such detailed food on our table.
