Smokin A's Good Eats — Restaurant in DeSoto

TD;LR: Beyond disappointed by the bland food at this food truck. Will not be back.

Smokin A’s Good Eats is a bbq food truck located in front of the DeSoto Marketplace, right next to a seafood food truck. I’ve been determined to try all of the vendors in that area and today was Smokin A’s time to shine.

Unfortunately, that was not the case.

▪️Food: I ordered a Stuffed Turkey leg (which was dry and lacked significant flavor) with the Jamaican cabbage (I really just didn’t enjoy it and it has mushrooms — so random), macaroni (not good, it wasn’t creamy and a little bland), red beans and rice (my rice was not cooked all the way through, it was bland, and rice has red meat even though I said I didn’t want red meat 🙄). Also, my food wasn’t really warm. It was a lot of food, but felt like a waste of money at $23 and bland food. I couldn’t even finish the plate. 😩

I should’ve taken it all back but I don’t like to be difficult and I was in a hurry since I was in between clients at work. And no pics for the same reason. If you follow me you know I normally have them.

I wanted so much to give them higher but I just can't. They were friendly but the food wasn't it. I ordered a chop brisket plate with dirty rice and greens. It came to a total of $12.99. The portions were a tad bit small compared to what you would normally get some where else. The dirty rice was a mush mixture and had no flavor at all. It was overly spicy. The texture was not like any dirty rice I've eaten. It was part mushy and part grainy.The greens were just as bad. As for the chopped brisket, it was drenched in bbq sauce. I wasn't asked if I preferred it on the side which is my preference bc I like to taste the actual flavor of the meat. When places drench their meat with bbq sauce it almost always is to compensate for lack of flavor. Maybe I chose the wrong menu items idk but this wasn't a great experience. First off I don't live in this area I was visiting my parents. My parents where getting seafood next to them but don't seafood. So I choose to get BBQ. When I ordered for some reason my card kept getting declined. I told him I was sorry and went to check my bank account to see what the problem was. My account was froze due to a fraud issue from the night before in a area close by. The owner walk out to speak with me. Asked me if everything was OK. I said yes just a issue with my bank. Maybe next time I'm in the neighborhood I'll try out the food. By the time my parents got there food the owner of BBQ spot brought what I ordered and said God bless you. It was greatly appreciated. I got a chopped beef sandwich and red beans and rice. When we got home and ate. It was absolutely delicious. Meat was tender and well seasoned.
