I have attached photos to verify my story. Had a good experience at this restaurant for mother's day. The waitress provided fine table service and the food met expectations. My wife and I ended up splitting the tab and she initially did not notice that the calculated tip was for the entire bill and not her portion. She scribbled out her initial total, edited the tip and wrote the correct total clearly on the receipt. Due to issues with this in the past she took a picture of the receipt. When looking back at her credit card statement she realized they had added $9 on to the tip. I called the manager and he did not seem overly concerned and asked me first what he wanted me to do, and then offered to give me a free appetizer if I chose to not go through the hassle of refunding the card. In my opinion this is terrible customer service. When I go to a restaurant I want to feel safe enough to not have to double check my credit card statement to make sure I was not overcharged. If an intentional overcharge occurs I would expect to have at minimum my wife's bill comped along with a sincere apology. I texted the manager the pictures of the restaurant copy receipt and the credit card statement showing the overcharging. He said he would call me back and I never heard back from him. He tried to pass if off as a mistake but as you can see from the bill before, the total amount was quite clear, the picture shows it is the restaurant copy of the receipt. Also as we already tipped over 20% this theft added insult to injury. Atrocious service outweighs the average dining experience.

After returning to Detroit from the vibrant streets of Mexico, where the sun always shines, I found solace in the comforting embrace of El Brazon. Tucked away amidst the gray and cold skies, this gem of a restaurant beckoned me with promises of authentic Mexican flavors. Navigating through the inconspicuous rear entrance from the parking lot, we found ourselves welcomed into a cozy interior. While reservations are advisable, we managed to secure a table for two without much delay. Although the decor leaned towards simplicity, it served as a stark contrast to the explosion of flavors awaiting us in the dishes. Opting for indoor seating over the covered outdoor area, we were promptly attended to by the bustling staff. Their efficiency ensured that our dining experience was not only swift but also filled with warmth and hospitality. We indulged in a shared salad followed by a traditional Mexican dish, both of which exceeded our expectations in terms of taste and authenticity. Remarkably, within a mere 45 minutes, we had savored every bite and found ourselves reluctantly bidding farewell to El Brazon. Its convenient parking and secure location offered a sense of ease, distinct from the hustle and bustle of downtown Detroit—a factor that drew us to this hidden culinary haven. In conclusion, for a taste of Mexico without leaving the comfort of Detroit, I wholeheartedly recommend El Brazon. From its delectable cuisine to its efficient service and cozy ambiance, it is a dining experience worth savoring time and time again.

My second time and unfortunately not sure if will return. We had reservations and the place was pretty empty upon arrival. We were greed and seated quickly. Water arrived fast so was someone else asking us to move because the table was to big for our party. Huh? Why were we placed at that table when the restaurant was empty. Anyway, we moved, no biggie, I just thought they'd know how seat guests. Our waitress was very pleasant and she seem to know her menu well. She made great recommendations and our appetizer arrived quick. However, we asked no less than 5-6 times for tortillas but no one came to bring it. I feel like as the restaurant got busy the staff and waitress forgot us. I believe a manager or owner passed by and ask how was everything. We informed him about us waiting and finally we got some attention but by the time we got our tortillas the appetizer was cold, no one wanted it. The stuffed pepper was delicious and the presentation was great. The sauce was a big too rich for me but that's my personal opinion. I just wish it was hotter. The sauce was cold and so was the stuffing. I think there must be a better communication between the staff, it was very annoying to be ignored for a long time...after all the places is not cheap, our dinner was $300+ so for that I thought the service should be up there with the price.

This was my first time at El Barzon. Dinner plans were around 8pm. I arrived at the restaurant when it was a bit darker outside and I was caught off guard. It's off a main road in a very sketchy looking area. There was parking behind the building so you don't have to park your car on the street. I walked inside and I felt a million times better. The place inside was very simple but elegant. For starters, the service was absolutely phenomenal. Tucked the napkins in our laps, checked up often always smiling and friendly, helped with menu choices, and boxed up our leftovers for us. The food was amazing for the most part. I got the goat chops and I can honestly say I wouldn't recommend that or get it again. But I tried everyone else's dishes and they were all amazing. The pastas and sauces were absolutely delicious here. Pricing is in par with what you'd expect. Appetizers around $10-12 and most pasta dishes were around $20 a plate. Our servers brought out a dessert on the house and sang happy birthday for someone in my party. Def recommend this place to everyone. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!!

Another restaurant that is just so Detroit. One of the things that I love about Detroit and the current restaurant scene is the juxtaposition of where the restaurant is at vs how good it is. Restaurants in Detroit are helping to really elevate the surrounding area and this restaurant and many others scattered around the city do this so well. El Barzon also represents the mixing pot mentality of Detroit, Michigan and our country. They bring you no compromise authentic Italian and Mexican and they do it with style and they make it fun! Our server at El Barzon was warm welcoming and ensured that we had a wonderful experience. The prosciutto and melon was a welcome surprise especially for anyone who has never had it. The chicken doused in molé was a surprise for me as someone who has loved Mexican cuisine for decades I have never had mole in Michigan and was glad to find it. El Barzon was a spot on my list that I waited years to check and now that I’ve been there I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do. The outdoor patio was nice as well and made for a great setting.

I hate to leave a poor review, because it used to be such a solid A+ place. We went this evening and our service was just OK. Nothing amazing. But mediocre. The server forgot a beer that was ordered, but it was not on the bill - so not a huge deal. The food was mediocre too. We ordered a pizza as an app- the flavor was there- but the presentation was sloppy and over sauces. There are way better places for wood-fired pizzas. I ordered a veal dish. I was expecting a veal cutlet at least. But it was like a veal shaving. The portion was tiny compared to the price. Again, over sauced. The spinach side it was served with looked unappetizing- the flavor was ok. The overall presentation of our food was sloppy and unappealing. It lacked a lot of flavor and it was overall very disappointing. We could see every other dish brought to tables near us and everything looked delicious and good sized portions- while ours looked very dismal. Unfortunately, the restaurant selections are competitive in Detroit now, and this place lost our business.
