Update 2022: I won’t change my five stars. But I did want to mention that after Covid this place has definitely taken a hit. Husband and I went back there after they reopened the dining room. It was nothing like it used to be. The food was different and the staff is completely different. And I did not get that warm and fuzzy vibe like I used to. I could overlook that if the food wasn’t so different. But the food is almost like they changed the cooks and the way that they cook. Possibly because of high inflation and high food costs now? But definitely not as good. I’m sad about that. But Covid has changed a lot for everybody in the restaurant business especially. The staff aren’t as friendly.
Original review: My family and I have been coming here since 2013. My husband and I have made this our favorite place to come on Saturday morning for breakfast or brunch. It’s a small mom and pop restaurant, not great ambiance, but I completely overlook the less than up to date decor for the food. They have specials everyday. The prices are great for the amount AND quality of food! Saturday’s are always Carnitas on special and barbacoas tacos. I love the carnitas, and there is always enough for leftovers to eat later for dinner! It costs $6.75! You get chips, salsa(hot is so fresh and delicious, the mild is the BEST I’ve tried)! And they offer Fideo as well which is so tasty! The tamales are also so good. I’ve had the chiliquiles which is my favorite breakfast there. My husband loves the chicken Milanesa. The beans are like they should be, not a thick paste of over cooked beans. They are smooth and creamy and have some bits of whole bean pieces. The rice is delicious and the tortillas are warm. I also recommend the Albondingas soup (meatball soup). Flavor is amazing! The staff are great, never a long wait in all the years I’ve been coming. Even with how busy it is on the weekends, we’ve always been happy with...
Read moreSo I'm going to be reasonable with this review. Their prices are EXTREMELY GOOD. But almost too good....when I called to places Togo order, I felt like I was kinda rushed. I asked what was the menu like because they don't have an online menu. The lady over the phone kinda sounded irritated with me. I ordered some tamales and asked for green ones with chicken.... Considering this is a "Mexican restaurant" and with me having a Hispanic background, I was excited to hear about this place... But they don't have ANY green TAMALES! 🥺 Their breakfast burrito that had potatoes had an odd taste... Me and my boyfriend were not pleased. Authentic tamales are THICK, moist and most Hispanic eateries MAKE GREEN TAMALES! I should've known better... 🤣 Just a warning, if you're genuinely Hispanic... I don't think you will like their tamales here AT ALL. The Maseca probably doesn't even have Manteca in it 🙄 the tacos weren't bad, but y'all should offer tortilla milagro instead of plain corn white tortillas. Way...
Read moreI have always spoke extremely high of Evie's. I've always bragged about them having the best tamales. I drive from Pontiac passing many places to get their tamales. I took a trip out of town and decided I'd pick up a few bags since I would be in the area. If you're getting a large quantity they prefer advance notice. No problem and understandable. Since I'd be getting there within an hour of them opening I called and placed my order for 4 dozen the day prior. They charge $10 per dz and $8 per dz if frozen. I always get mine fresh and requested the same for these. I picked up my order the following morning. I didn't check my order because I've never had an issue in the 10 yrs I've been going there. I decided to have a few when I got home. One bag was fresh and the other three were frozen. I was charged the price for 4 fresh bags. After thawing 2 of the bags and they tasted bland, watered down in a sense I threw them and the last bag away. A waste of $30. Hate to say it but I won't...
